So what classes are still in need of balancing? Which ones aren't complete? Which are the uber builds? And what have you decided on playing?
So far from what I've seen, if I ended up playing, I think I'd go with a Priest, specced Holy. I have to give Blizzard credit for not making the Healer class just a Healer class. Unlike most implementations of Priests or Clerics, they seem to have pretty good damage and are just as soloable as anything else. Yet, even if that was nerfed, they couldn't take away my main job from me anyhow (healing).

One thing you will have to combat as a priest is the perception of other players that you are nothing but a healbot.
The game is designed so that priest != healer only, but many people bring their prejudices from other games, and I've seen priests get yelled at and /kicked from groups because they dared to use abilities other than healing. Over time, as people really learn the game, they will realize a priest is so much more ... after all, if the priest makes things dead, then dead creatures can't hurt you, and no need for healing. (Besides, I think people depend too much on healers to cover up their retarded play tactics, but that's a rant for another day.)
I'm a fan of hybrid classes, so the shaman is easily my first choice. Great in groups, great solo, seemingly endless battle options.

Shaman downright kick ass right now. They are really versitile and well made. I think they are one of the best implimentation of a hybrid class in any MMOG to date.
Warlocks are really fun, and a very different type class. Lots of DoTs and fun spells to play with.
Druids are not bad, they are basically a second rate Mage, Warrior and Rogue with their shape changing, plus having a few nifty spells in normal form.
I didnt like Priest just because there solo is slow.
Warrior is fun. Better than most MMOGs.

One thing you will have to combat as a priest is the perception of other players that you are nothing but a healbot. . Priests and warriors both have to deal with these kinds of perceptions. Warriors are percieved as tauntbots, and priests are percieved as healbots. Both classes can be kicked from groups if they don't conform.

So umm, what are some of the ways I can grief the type of groups in question (with a Priest specifically)? Maybe this is what all the crowd control is for. EDIT: Actually, the only Priest I'm interested in is Holy, so I won't mind choosing the role of healer if I have to. Also good is that I won't need to group necessarily. What I don't like is dumbass players bringing in their playstyles from other games. I'd grief them on principle (if possible). Same bullshit happened in CoH.

Rogues and shamans are extremely (over)powerful at the moment. Priests will spend almost all their time in instance groups healing, mostly because the the 5-second mana regeneration rule (you don't regenerate mana for 5 seconds after you cast spell, which has the effect of greatly increasing the mana costs for all spells and strongly encouraging priests to avoid "unnecessary" casting). But healing in a WoW instance is pretty fast and furious, so I don't think that is too much of a downside. Priests also solo like mofos with certain builds (esp shadow-heavy builds).
Warlocks also rock the hizzy. "Tank" warriors are pretty much up in the air until they patch in aggro system 1.3 next week. Offensive warrior builds are decent for PvP and soloing, but not as powerful as they have been in the past (lost inner rage, nerfed mortal strike and hamstring among other changes). They are also the best tanks atm, but that will change next week.

I have been playing a gnome warlock. I have always played warrior classes in MMOG's, and this class has really pleasantly surprised me.
The class progression quests have excellent atmosphere, and new skills and abilities are nicely portioned out.
It felt so good to get my tanking pet after a really cool quest.

I've got my rogue up to 12 and I can say that so far its a blast. Anything within 2 or 3 levels is dead meat within seconds. Add in sprint for when things go wrong and stealth for wandering around and the class so far really fits my play style well.

I played a mage to 7, a rogue to 10, and a druid to 12. I've been enjoying the druid, the class has a good bit of everything. I'm not invulnerable, but at these low levels I can approach the AC of a pally with reasonable armor. I'm a leatherworker, and have made just the first tier of armor, + the 2nd tier BP, and at 12 I can get my AC up to 525 or so buffed in bear form. And my melee damage in that form is decent too. Great form for farming lower level mobs for pelts and quest drops.
The rogue was good too, the one attack that stuns your target so you can run around and backstab is very nice.

I'm playing a gun-totin' cow. I have no idea how uber it is or isn't, but its perfectly good at soloing. With both gun and axe, ammo, skills and crafting supplies, money is a tad tight to start. Currently lvl 11, with ~100 in skinning and ~40 in leatherworking.

Needless to say, he pretty much can solo anything we take together -- including things 5 levels above him.

All I know is that comparing a paladin to a mage up to the early teens is ridiculous. The paladin is just godly. I expect nerfs unless their power significantly decreases at higher levels.

Their power significantly decreases at higher levels. I'm L20 right now. Up until about L14 I would say that I was better than most classes out there at solo'ing or in groups. Now, I'm still good, but I get out-damaged, out-healed, and out defended? by other classes.

AFAIK, paladins are supposed to be tough tanks. they pay for it in a lack of range attacks(cannot train bow or gun or thrown) and low damage output comparitive to other classes. Out of curiosity, having seen so many hunters, I made one this morning... A Dwarven one, so I could use a gun. The popularity of the Hunter class is evidenced by the fact that the dwarven newbie field sounds like a firing range, on a busy afternoon. Well, that, and the 100 million times a day you hear 'How do I feed my pet?', "When do I get petz?", "What does my pet eat??" etc, ad nauseum. Alkiera

I do believe that'll work.
I usually play a tank type character in these games so made a Warrior right away that's my highest lvl char. Then, I couldn't log into the server I made him on and just for shits and giggles made a Warlock on another server.
Holy Crap are they fun.
So far, I've tried (at very low levels) a rogue, druid, warrior, warlock and hunter and can honestly say I'll have difficulty picking what I want my "main" character to be.

Night Elf Hunters can train and use guns as well.
On the CB server I went and skilled up with a gun. Seemed like the range on a gun was better than my bow. Never could actually prove it though.

Speaking of classes, does anyone know if there's a list showing % of classes people are playing? I seem to see a lot of Paladins and Hunters, so was just curious how many people are playing what.

Excactly the reason why my first reaction after character creation is to turn of the general chat. please please please tell me how to do that. If you look at your chat box, it should say some thing like this 1. [General] SomeShITHeAD: why do i swing a sword? Type in "/leave 1" Where one is the number in front of the general chat line of text. You can do this for the world defence also, that is usually #3. If you decide you want to rejoin a chat you do "/join general" where general is the name of the chat you want to join.

Rogues and shamans are extremely (over)powerful at the moment. Yeah as a shaman (currently level 25) I have an insta-cast nuke that slows movement, plus a 40% runspeed buff reduced to 1 sec casting time with talents. When I kill people in PvP it feels unfair and merciless because with a press of a single key I can snare and nuke while moving. If they put any distance between us, I can catch up. That does seem too powerful - I think the only way to beat a shaman is to output spectacular damage with your first move and put them on the defensive.

I'll most likely play a shaman upon release. I think my two friends playing are either going to be a shaman and warrior or shaman and mage. Either would make us a pretty nasty trio. The other shaman is a supreme catass so he'll likely make a druid also (he'll massively outlevel me with both).
I like the shaman, it's really my ideal class. Offensive and utility magic with the ability to lay down some melee pain. Plus, they're not glass cannons with the ability later on to wear chain. Their talents are also pretty well designed in that different talent specs will perform radically different in certain situations. They may be overpowered, so I just hope that Blizzard doesn't radically change them for the worse.
If that happens, I had fun playing a warlock, mage and warrior also. Really, Blizzard did a bang up job designing these classes. I can't really think of one that I wouldn't enjoy playing to an extent.
My biggest quandry is going to be race. Do I pick my favored trolls with their undeniable stytle or do I go with the more totemistic and racially trail blessed Cows. Still not sure.

If you love godawful Caribbean accents, by all means take a troll. The Tauren have much better aesthetics. I'll be taking a troll anyway, since most of the hunter-specific quests involve killing beasts, and trolls get a combat bonus vs beasts. But I will cringe while doing so.

I do. I'm a sucker for cheese and camp in these games. I also like their capoiera a bit more than the Tauren banana dance. Plus, they're a smaller target (I don't much like playing behemoths), look very cool in some of the better armor, and get a cool mount later on. The Tauren have a great starting area, some awesome racial traits, and they're cows. My only fear for the trolls is that they're likely to draw the "EYEM COOL CUZ I SMOKE POT!" crowd. I'm going to wince leveling up next to Hookah Smokah, Stickeee Green, and Rolle Thablunt.
