For those of you who cancelled you subbscriotion, how long did they say they will hold on to your character data?

When has an operating MMO ever deleted char data?

That.

The only games I can think of that ever deleted characters were either dead games using the warning of a character wipe to entice players to come back, or FFXI.

If you leave this one, you're probably fine for at least a few years.

EQ2 has.  They deleted toons under level 6 with less than 1g that had not logged in for 30/60(?) days.  This was for when they merged servers eons ago.

Any game that wants a chance for you to come back won't delete your character.  The second they do, you are gone forever.

EQ had a 3 month policy. I was never able to test it out as I quit and came back within a few days of the cutoff point. I think I can totally understand the hell that smokers and drug addicts go through when they quit. For a good 2 months I would lay awake in bed constantly thinking about EQ. I think I may have had a bit of the shakes as well. No joke. That game was my world for a good many years. I still have an active sub but rarely go back in. I'm waiting to see how the henchmen expansion pans out. I've got a 56 BL that I think I'd have quite a bit of trouble finding groups with at this point. If I can get a henchmen party to get me up into the higher levels then I might start actively playing again.

I was drinking when I wrote this, so sue me if it goes astray.

CoH did a low level wipe a few years ago to free up names from the hordes of lvl1 char concepts.

I don't think CoH actaully wiped characters. They archived them and made the names available. If you returned your could unarchive them. If name was taken you had to rename.

UO wiped characters unactive for 3 months during the first year or or two and then stopped doing that when they figured out ws not a good idea.

Since 90% of the game in CoH was in the name & costume identity, taking away your name is somewhat like deleting your character.
