Planes? Shit, I'm terrified to get in my car now!

on: October 14, 2008, 01:19:12 AM

I nearly titled this "Games for a cripple?" but thought that might elicit some ire...

Anyway, I'm really struggling with boredom and frustration at the moment. Because of my knackered back I can't sit in any way for more than about 5 minutes. I have to spend all of my time walking around or lying down, which means that I can only use my laptop (P4 3.2GHz, 1gb ram, ATI mobility 9600) and even that is only possible for more than a few minutes if I lie totally on my side and use just my right hand - propping myself up to use 2 hands and look at the screen straight-on gets painful fast.

So does anyone have any suggestions for games that might be playable in this situation? It needs to be slow as needed - turn-based is good. It needs to not be too reliant on lots of text to read cos reading sideways is kinda difficult and it needs to be playable 1-handed no problems.

I've got about a week of play out of Fallout Tactics and I'm trying to find my old Jagged Alliance 2 discs (they're in one of those 3 boxes in the loft.... O_o ) but the codeine, tramadol and cannabis are clouding my brain and I can't think of anything else.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Civ?
Turn based, mostly playable with just the mouse. Lasts for ages and infinitely replayable.

Cracking idea, thanks! Added to the "rummage through boxes" list. When I've got 4 or 5 gooduns on the list I'll consider it worth the pain it will cost me to get up into the loft :)

The X-Com games? They're readily and cheaply available on Steam as well.

I played a lot of Age of Wonders 2 and AoW: Shadow Magic when I was laid up for a while.  Then there are the classics Master of Magic and Master of Orion.

Hahahaha!  I'm really good at this!

Some of the better turn based games I've played recently that seem to fall in line what with what you've been playing:

Heroes of Might and Magic 5 (it's fun, computer cheats like a fiend though)
Silent Storm (especially if you're a big JA2 fan. Up until you get the power armor crap, it's possibly the best turn based squad tactics game around)

If you want newer turn-based goodness, I can definitely recommend King's Bounty.  Most of my weekend slipped away one turn at a time.

Am I to assume we are just talking about PC games?  Lots of turn-based ideas on the DS.

GalCiv 2 is a favorite of mine, along the lines of previous posts, though.  If you're going with Civ (IV+BtS) then I will suggest you get the Fall From Heaven 2 mod and go apeshit.

Puzzle Quest?

Why am I homeless?  Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question.

Some great stuff here folks, thanks! There's even some things I've never played before, which rocks! Totally agree about Silent Storm Rasix, awesome game, defo on the list of re-plays.

Oh and:
Eve
Just cancelled my subs for various reasons. I'm so slow atm that the only thing I'd risk doing in EVE is mining and I can't run 2 accounts on this laptop and miningzzZzZzzZzZZzzZZZZZZZ :D

I just noticed that in the ghost training thread apologies! You could always download some Emulators and play some of your old games or ones you wish you had completed when you owned that particular machine the Megadrive and Snes emulators are great. I hated Gal-civ myself Civilization would be a better game for me if you can run it but the latest versions are serious memory hogs I wouldn't play without 2G at least.
