You're all kinda dancing off the point I was making :

I'm simply talking about the sheer fucking amount of totems you have versus the amount of boxes you have in the UI.

Totems are hugely messy and something like Totem timers is almost mandatory.

well, I used this oppurtinity to dump all my raid frrames and just use Grid.

Also, I bought another 22" widescreen monitor and am now running dual monitors.  With the CT_ Viewport mod I'm able to have all the game rendering in monitor 1 and all my chat windows, Grind, action bars, maps, etc on the other monitor.

Yeah, I use a totem stomper macro (/castsequence totem1,totem2,totem3,totem4) and manually alter it before every instance run depending on group composition. I only have important pvp totems hotkeyed, which is still a lot even with Gkeys and alt/ctrl modifiers, not to mention the huge number of actual spells I need to use (even though the removal of downranking, the sorta-nerf to windfury totem and the addition of cleanse spirit freed up some slots)...

As a resto shaman, my currently hotkeyed abilities are: water shield, lightning shield, earth shield, purge, cleanse spirit, lightning bolt, chain lightning, frost shock, earth shock, flame shock, wind shock (this one is on the same key as earth shock depending if I have a focus target or not), ghost wolf, healing wave, lesser healing wave, chain heal, riptide, heroism, totemic recall, NS+heal macro, tidal force, gift of the naaru, earthbind totem, tremor totem, grounding totem, mana tide totem, stoneclaw totem, stoneskin totem, poison cleansing totem, flametongue totem, wrath of air totem, fire resistance totem, frost resistance totem, fire nova totem, magma totem, searing totem... that's like 30 hotkeys right there, and that doesn't even include trinket hotkeys, or lesser-used abilities, ugh. I imagine I'll have to keybind disease cleansing totem after WOTLK as well when eleventy billion DKs flood the scene.

(And yeah, stoneclaw IS effective in pvp against certain abilities. :p)

Amen to that.  My totem mod is the only one that broke that I outright replaced, the rest I can make do until it's fixed or I find something new.  I like totems, honestly, and how we have one for most situations, but the default UI fails miserably in making them easy to use.

As to using them, in generic daily/quest stuff, I really only drop them if I know I'm about to take on something tough, like a group, a packed area, or a higher leveled mob.  Except the grounding totem, that one I drop a lot.  Between the spirit wolves and shamanistic rage, I never need to worry about the health/mana I'd save dropping them for every encounter.  I also like having grace of air rolled into strength of earth now.

I notice some bad words said in this thread about the Curse client. Could someone elaborate a bit? I've just installed it to have a look and it seems OK, but it did say something about a Premium trial. Is the non-premium (which I assume it'll swap back to at some point) heavily crippled or full of ads or something?

No idea, but the trial said the free version doesn't auto-update you have to do a manual pick and choose of which mods to update.  That alone is enough to not bother with installing it, imo.

You, sir are amazing to me for having bought an extra 22" monitor for WOW.

If you know something I don't PLEASE SPILL !

The only thing I know is that I know nothing and that doubly applies to Shamans which is the only class I don't have on my roster. I shall, henceforth, shut up about all matters shamanistic.

Bar addons, however, are fast becoming an essential requirement. Any recomendations? Also - 30+ hotkeys? WTF? I don't have that many fingers!  What sort of configuration do you use?

It was just an excuse to buy a new monitor :)  I had a 21" crt that had paired with a 22" widescreen and I wanted to reclaim the realestate on my desk. To do it, I just followed this guide

http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/05/11/dual-heading-and-wow-a-how-to-guide/

In a nutshell, you make your two monitors act as one giant descktop 3380*1050.  Then you tell Wow to run in that res.  The Mod CT_Viewport lets you set the rendered area to where you want it.  So you just tell it to only render on 50% of your 3380*1050 monitor, which just happens to be the size of one monitor.

Then I just dragged all my crap to the other side.

The problem I have with the Curse client is it just doesn't work, and it lies to you on top of that. Sure I updated your addons! See, they have today's date now!

Actually I turned off auto-updating because auto-updating is annoying especially when things are wonky like after a patch (not every update is a good idea - if things are working reasonably well, you don't touch them until a few weeks down so you know the updates then are reasonably final).

In order to manually update you just click the 'check for update' button, it reorganizes the list putting the ones with updates at the top with an icon that shows they need to be updated, then you shift-click to highlight them all and click Update Addon.  Get to control exactly when and which ones get updated and it's no problem.

Dispite having used WUA for the past 2 years I still would happily go back to downloading everything by hand if the damn crap just worked right. I've been waiting on XPerl and Fubar to stop being buggy messes for a week and no one seems to be doing much.

Anyone on the beta server know how things are going there? I'm suspecting some more patches will fix parts of the lua engine and that the authors have it fixed with the new code from beta and are just waiting for the code from Blizzard to be patched in. For some reason I find bugs withing 2 min of trying to install a lot of mods I'm looking to update so the bugs must be obvious.

X-Perl works fine for me. Never liked Fubar however.

X-Perl and FuBar are both working fine for me too, sounds like it might be a conflict with some other addon maybe? Also, I've not exactly played much, just logged on a couple of chars and sold 1200g worth of herbs. I could still have a plethora of horrid UI bugs waiting to be discovered, but by the time I can actually play for more than 10 mins a day it will all need updating again anyway :p

How do you do this? Do you... just have windowed mode and drag it across two monitors, or?

I posted a link above.  Here is what it looks like currently.  The stuff on the left is my left monitory, and the stuff one the right is what i see on my right monitor.  I have MIRC and firefox running on the empty space on the right, but that doesn't get picked up on the screenshots.

Looks awesome to me! If my 2nd monitor wasn't attached to a 2nd computer (running a 2nd account) I'd give it a go myself. Oh and also if I wasn't still fucking crippled.

I'd guess it only really works if you're a keyboard shortcut ability kinda person. Hotbar clicking would be very O_o

I don't think the screenshot does it Justice.  Keep in mind this is actaully two monitors you are loooking at.  When I'm raiding, I'm only looking at the left monitor.  I'll drag over Grid and Omen and leave everything else on the right monitor.

I use Clique and hotkeys for all of my spells, so I never have a need to look at the right monitor.

Okay, so it is just dragged windowed mode - yeah, CT_Viewport or equivalent mod makes that pretty easy.

I'd feel naked without my screen cluttered with shit - my other monitor is for web browsing and ventrilo-ing.

Whether it downloads automatically or manually, it's the same thing. At least with an automatic updater, it's from a legit site and you won't be hitting the slightly misspelled names thing.

On the trojan thing, I'm rather appalled at how many keylogger links are left on the official forums. Can't they blacklist some of these on a filter ffs? Either way my usb thingie should be in the mail today or tomorrow.
