Eighties pop singer Rick Astley has become the surprise contender for best act ever at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool.
The star, who has never been nominated in the history of the event, is up against U2, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Green Day and Tokio Hotel.
The winner, chosen by fans online, will be unveiled at the show on 6 November.

In 1987/88 I was a high school exchange student to Germany. At the end of the trip in January '88, all of us (17-year-old Aussie exchange students) were taken to West Berlin - it was still a divided city - and given an extraordinary amount of freedom to just wander the city, go to nightclubs, get drunk and generally go wild. The soundtrack, the international hit song playing in EVERY nightclub was Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley.

Today, as the Cartoon Network "Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends" float rolled by the cameras, the godawful pupped of "Blue" began singing a song, only to be interrupted by Rick Astley busting from inside of the float and Rickrolling everyone. At the end "Cheese" says "I love Rickrolling" and the float moved on. It was awesome. |
