Astley shortlisted for MTV award

Eighties pop singer Rick Astley has become the surprise contender for best act ever at this year's MTV Europe Music Awards in Liverpool.

The star, who has never been nominated in the history of the event, is up against U2, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Green Day and Tokio Hotel.

The winner, chosen by fans online, will be unveiled at the show on 6 November.
.....
"Rick's fans have obviously decided that he deserves recognition as a pop icon and no doubt they are determined to make sure he wins on the night," said the award show's producer Richard Godfrey.

In 1987/88 I was a high school exchange student to Germany. At the end of the trip in January '88, all of us (17-year-old Aussie exchange students) were taken to West Berlin - it was still a divided city - and given an extraordinary amount of freedom to just wander the city, go to nightclubs, get drunk and generally go wild. The soundtrack, the international hit song playing in EVERY nightclub was Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley.

It would be best if he wasn't nominated at all, but then still won and came out for a live performance of "Never gonna give you up."..

Well, it is better than those 3. I don't count Britney and Christina. I really shouldn't count Tokio Hotel either.

I mean, just going form a strictly pop music standpoint, no Madonna or Michael Jackson?  How about Kiss or another band that's known for their showmanship?  The only one of that group I'd seriously consider is U2.  I'll still be voting for Astley, however.

Jackson touches children.

Strangely, since that news broke, I haven't heard much from him or the awarding bodies.

What that blog doesn't say is that MTV spat on his face.

This explains the story quite well.

I know most of you don't watch the Macy's day parade because you don't have kids.

Today, as the Cartoon Network "Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends" float rolled by the cameras, the godawful pupped of "Blue" began singing a song, only to be interrupted by Rick Astley busting from inside of the float and Rickrolling everyone.  At the end "Cheese" says "I love Rickrolling" and the float moved on. It was awesome.

What I hate about the whole Rickrolling meme is that every singly bastard time I read or hear about an incident I get that bloody song stuck in my head for hours. My brain is poisoned!  Mob
