I sugest you DON'T pick up WAR, its a horrible game that will feel like playing a downs version of WoW. Depends on taste really. If you enjoy PvP as your primary source of fun, I think WAR is a better alternative. If you like PvE with a smattering of PvP, I'd say that WoW is a much better option. WoW requires an insane level of grinding in order to compete well in pvp. If you enjoy playing the loot min-max game, then yes... WoW is a much better choice. Not sure how you can say this when the end game of WAR is under NDA 1 day before release. I think the OP's strategy of waiting to see how WAR plays out over a month of two is the correct one.

Either I'm talking in complete hypotheticals, I've learned stuff from reading forums, or I've experienced it. I'll let you decide which.

I think you going have to wait more than couple months for the end game to be unlocked to see it before you buy WAR. Maybe on a really imbalanced server.

Its possible to play both. While dedicated players of one game 'outperform' me I may still be able to enjoy both WAR and WotLK content. It's possible that I'll get that awesome drop that they were after while they are off on a forum somewhere arguing religiously about which game is 'best'.

I really see these games as attracting different crowds with WAR being more directed at a niche. WoW is kind when it comes to quests, PvE, and itemization. What remains to be seen is how WAR RvR will play when a significant number of players have min-maxxed both in terms of gear and group builds.

To you maybe. I've been having a lot more fun playing WAR PvP than I EVER have playing WoW PvP. It's a matter of personal preference.

I tried WAR Open beta. I tried WotLK beta.
It was fun. I got this guy. I killed some guy. Insert anecdote about new and refreshing, but largely similar gameplay experience here. Point out how gear is less key, or maybe more key, or maybe I don't know because I don't have the 170 days of /played experience with this that I have with WoW.
I'm sure the PvE is worse. WoW pretty much owns PvE, because that's what they do. The PvP may or may not be better. If it is better I'll stay. If not, whatever WOTLK is right around the corner. If you want it to be as well rounded in terms of PvP, PvP, crafting, vanity crap, etc as WoW is you will be disappointed. If you want better duels in a box, you may get what you want.
