Need feedback. My wife and I are playing WoW consistently now and focused on PvP. Since we don’t have a large guild etc. we thought we should focus on PvP and acquiring gear at 60. The idea being PvP 60 gear will be a good start for Arenas at 70.
Is this correct? I realize several of the Outland items are equivalent to 60 BG Epic gear, but we thought worst case we could stay at 60 at harvest the 65k cap of Honor to give us a leg up for Arenas when we hit 70. Does this make sense? What would you do? Thx.

It is a waste of time.
Level 60 gear does not have resilience. It has no relevance at 70, let alone in the Arena's.
The only benefit would be the honor/token farming, but even that is debatable depending on how often you win in the 60 Bracket.

Outland greens will do you more good than level 60 PVP gear.

You might want to grind 65k honor at 60, but in my experience, the queue times are somewhere around ten or twenty times as long, and it's not like someone running around the L70 AV in quest greens is rare enough to even raise an eyebrow. I'd say just grind to 70, then once there, grind your honor and your arena points at the same time (you'll loose in the Arena, but loosing ten games per week gets you more points than playing none). It'll be way faster. Also, assuming you get to at least honored with a few Outland factions, you can buy the blue PvP set off the vendors, which blows the 60 PvP gear out of the water.

If you're not going into T4 content at 70, get the faction PvP blues and start in with the BGs. That's your best bet.
I wouldn't bother with the 60 PvP stuff. It's obsolete and no better than garden variety TBC blues. If you do start to PvP before 70, save your honor and marks and buy the S2 stuff. Put it on when you hit 70.
Regardless of what you do your first forays into PvP are going to be painful. It gets better, but those first few weeks are really going to suck.

This. But really, I suggest you both pick up WAR.
This. Save yourselves grinding 10 levels and in-game WEEKS of honor/arena grinding just to try to be competitive and be doing it in WAR starting at lvl 1.

Gear-up honour farming for level 70 is apparently most enjoyable at the top-end of the 69 bracket. You get the level 70 AV for the crazy honour splurge, but you also get to bimble around WSG, AB and EoTS without glaive rogues and full S4 people making you feel so horribly impotent. I really wouldn't bother farming at 60, the level 60 epic set lasts at best until around 65 (I was using the healer mace until ring of blood), and the honour gain rate in the 60 brackets is far slower than the level 70 AV.
So basically, go to 69, do level 70 AV for honour, level 69 everything else for marks. Save up for bits of the PvP gear and level to 70. What classes do you and your wife play by the way, because that does shape what PvP pieces you might want to go for.

You guys are seriously coming into the WoW forums to suggest, "Go buy WAR?"
1. It is in Beta.
2. You all said the same stuff for AoC with as much time played. Premature ejaculation galore!
Come back when:
1. It releases.
2. You have 2-3 months of playtime in.

I'll echo this. Plays like WoW and allows you to enjoy fun PvP from level 1. The WAR PvP mechanic is much more satisfying than WoW.

Other than the delay in activation of powers (something I expect will be fixed by release), I'm not sure what the big difference is. In both WAR and WoW you hit a button and stuff happens. Is there something that I'm missing? Attacks, cc, hp, power, skills, etc. I don't see the cause of disappointment. Help me out. <In case I'm being unclear, I mean this as a genuine attempt to understand your opinion. I'm not being sarcastic>

If you discount the big glaring difference that's been there throughout beta (with at least one attempt to fix it that was apparently unsuccessful) then it's exactly the same? WAR doesn't feel anything like WoW, and if people go into WAR expecting the game to play smooth and reactive like WoW they are going to be disappointed.

I think you mean "WAR doesn't feel anything like WoW TO ME". My opinion is that, once the delay is fixed, the games are very SIMILAR in feel. I don't like using words like EXACT, ALL, or NEVER unless they are suitable. I guess we have different opinions. Oh noes.

Why are you doing this? Are you that daft? IF that big giant hole in the interface is changed then sure the game will feel like WoW. RIGHT NOW IT DOES NOT. I cannot understand why you keep saying "it doesn't feel like wow to you, but if the thing that makes it not feel like WoW to me is fixed then it will totally feel like wow man." Of course it will feel like wow if they change the thing that makes it not feel like wow. That's not exactly rocket surgery. As of this moment that thing is not fixed.

Some random person: Play WAR instead it plays exactly like WoW. Me: The game does not feel like WoW. You: Other than the parts that do not feel like WoW it feels exactly like WoW. Me: Right, the parts that do not feel like WoW makes the game not feel like WoW. You: If you don't include the parts of the game that feel nothing like WoW, the game is exactly like WoW. I'm just not sure what is so hard to understand about that. Both you and I are saying that there are parts of the game that feel nothing like WoW. Only you seem to be making the argument that I should be ignoring those parts and just saying that the game feels exactly like WoW because those parts that don't feel like WoW should be ignored because if I ignored them the game would feel exactly like WoW even though it doesn't feel exactly like WoW because of those parts of the game that I should just ignore because if I did it'd be exactly like WoW. Or something.

Thanks for the advice. Me and the spouse (shammie) will stick with WoW till the waters of WAR are calmer. I'm a fan of DAoC and hope WAR works out, but we don't have the wherewithal to deal with day0 issues. But I can guarantee we'll try it at some point. Bazooka Joe and all.
Isn't WotLK bringing in a new BG? I thought part of the whole point of it was destructible models/terrain and keep capture. No?

What class do you play again? Shamans are great fun in BGs, they can be incredibly tough as resto. If you're guaranteed to always have a cooperating partner, 2-player suqads in BGs can be immense fun, since your survivability goes up massively when you have someone else to peel off gankers (note this is from a healer pov). I'd suggest going to 69 then run around BGs as a pair killing stuff liberally :) There will be a new BG in WoTLK, it's an assault-type map where one team attacks, the other defends, then they switch. I think it'll be like EoTS though and only avaliable to expansion-level players (i.e. 70-80). The other big PvP thing is Lake Wintergrasp which is yet another attempt by Blizzard to make world PvP. Currently in beta it seems broken beyond belief.

Yea, as K9 advised, it's viable to park for some time at 69 to get honor and mark. My lock parked at 69 for around 2-3 weeks then lvled to 70 with 2 x 2 pieces of S2 armor for dual resilience bonus, caster staff, level 70 pvp trinket and 1-2 misc S2/vindicator items. While not exactly arena ready, the items gave my lock 260+ resilience - which is passable for 70s bg.
The limiting factor will probably be how fast the 60-69 bgs queue forms. On some servers sub 70 bgs can take forever to form up, so that can be rather aggravating.

At lvl 60, just spend your Honor Points for the Epic Mount. Once you hit 70, start spending your points again.

Didn't read the whole thread. So this might already have been said.
Don't bother grinding out any PVP loot at 60. It's useless. Likewise don't bother grinding out any PVP loot at 70.
Sure play and have fun in battlegrounds. But WotLK will be out before you two are geared enough to be competitive in arena, no matter how much you grind.
And then it will be time for the honor grind again at 80.
Fake Edit: Or, yeah, just get WAR.

I'm not sure why the level 60 gear is still there - maybe it's for the 60 twinks in the AV battleground (yes, there are lvl 60 twinks, ruining all of the brackets for nontwinks).
I'm still on the fence about WAR as well. I have a preordered CE coming but just haven't mustered any excitement at all. Funny though, I'm having a blast in WoW. (They seem to be little alike to me, for what that's worth).
Save your honor for 70. As long as you don't go over 75k, spend it then. Actually, you can spend it on 70 gear, I think, even if you're not yet 70, and just bank it. You should be able to get the honor pieces from CE and Lower City by the time you hit 70, so you might want to investigate and see which of those you'll have to see which of the bg gear to buy with honor.

I sugest you DON'T pick up WAR, its a horrible game that will feel like playing a downs version of WoW. Get to level 70, hoarde whatever honor you get on the way, at 70 start doing bgs AND arenas. Waiting until you are geared to start pvping will only cost you several weeks of arena points, and familiriaty with the arena format will do you as much good as better gear at that point.

I sugest you DON'T pick up WAR, its a horrible game that will feel like playing a downs version of WoW. Depends on taste really. If you enjoy PvP as your primary source of fun, I think WAR is a better alternative. If you like PvE with a smattering of PvP, I'd say that WoW is a much better option. WoW requires an insane level of grinding in order to compete well in pvp. If you enjoy playing the loot min-max game, then yes... WoW is a much better choice.
