Man I lost my ass tonight.  I finally saved up enough thanks to a couple generous donations from BAT to get and properly fit a Myrmidon.   Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?  So I figure it's time to head out to Catch from my noob home of Autama.  It was suggested to me that since I didn't have the money to insure it that I leave it in Autama and load up my Iteron II with my Incursus and Retriever.  It was also recommended that I don't come out until I can get someone from the corp or alliance to scout for me.  Well, I took the waypoints that were suggested to me, loaded them up, and decided to ship out.  Grand total of 47 jumps.

25 jumps left..  Warp scrambled, 'sploded, podded.  Not even by a red or war target.  I had to sell my shiny new pride and joy Myrmidon in order to buy and insure another Retriever and Iteron II so my own personal mining business can continue (which makes more than ratting at my level ever could.)

Lesson learned?   I don't know. Listen to corp mates when they say you need to make trips like that with lots of friends?

I guess this isn't that great of a story but it's the first time I've been killed.  It WAS fun yet upsetting at the same time.

fuck.   awesome, for real

Yep sounds like our cruel mistress Eve has properly introduced herself in her same glorious fashion. It was crazy to fly without insurance to be honest, but no point in dwelling on it. Just make sure you update your clone so that you don't lose any skillpoints!

So now you've lost your Eve virginity, time to get the head down, get back making some cash and keep at it. Happened us all at some point but ya just gotta keep going and take whatever lesson you can from it. All part of the Eve learning experience.

Thanks for the advice.  Mining as I type.   awesome, for real

Yeah, I left the Myrmidon because it was uninsured.  I had insurance on the Iteron which admittedly is shit.

I'm going to keep plugging along.  Eve is awesome.

I never went anywhere in 0.0 without a scout, even if it was my alt.  Didn't move my freighter there without at least 2 more I could trust.  Never lost one, only one close call but they made the mistake of podding my alt and he came back in a Carrier.

So I repurchased all of my ships and modules except I have a Thorax instead of a Myrmidon.  They're all insured and I still have 6 million ISK.

All in all I didn't lose much but I learned just how much Eve can hurt.

The hilarious thing to me is that the EXACT same thing happened to me, only it was a Hurricane because I'm Matar.  Kourmonen, Trill Crabulas.  I'll never forget it.  Insured at the lowest level.

Also, look up your autopilot settings....Here is some advice (that makes me some money sometimes) ... Set it to Stay in Higher security when possible or whatever, my guess is you got popped by a low sec gate camp. The map can also tell you a lot of info about your route, flatten the map and select "Ships destroyed in last 30 min" or  hour or whatever, this will give you a good warning where camps may be. Also when dealing in 0.0 , showing active pilots can show you where people hve gate camps setup if you know what the populations are normally.

Thanks for the advice everyone.  I DID actually remember to update my clone again.  I did NOT know that about the map though.  It was a 0.0 gate camp.  My warp was disrupted and it only took 3 freakin' missles (I think it was missles).

This is awesome though.  I'm a proponent of T2A UO.  I like the fact that I MUST watch my ass or lose it.

How do I post the killmail?

You hadnt a chance escaping an interceptor and a stealth bomber. If you had a warp core stabilizer fitted and a few shield extenders you may have gotten away.

So I take it warp core stabilizers are crucial?

Yeah as Samson says, only for traveling but I would also add to this, while you are getting used to the area also.
Personally, I rarely use them at all. The reason being, I think that if you get to the situation where you need them, then you are more than likely dead already.

What I mean by this is that you should already know from intel channels, the location of any reds and the likelyness of getting ganked at a gate. Large gangs show up on the star map if you select from stats I believe, which gives you prior warning. So the stabs will really only save you from the unexpected 1 to 2 man gate camp that hasn't been reported in intel or shown up on map.

If you check your route out thoroughly before hand and while traveling, then you greatly improve your chances of survival.

Speaking of which, could you move that to be a child of the MMOG board, rather than of this one?  Every time there's a new post in the private forum, the main Eve forum here lights up as having new posts, even for people like me who don't have access to the private forum.  I'm not playing Even at all any more, but I'm still interested in following it, and it gets annoying checking this forum thinking there's new posts.

Yah, I'd like to but we're afraid moving the forum or anything will jack up all the permissions. Schild *was* looking into upgrading the board software to make it easier, but apparently that's low on his priority list. ;-)

No, never did.  My Eve playing career was basically a 3 year long research project.  There were things I learned from Eve that I could never have seen anywhere else, and it's only the second game I've ever seen where newbie recruitment became a dominant PvP strategy.

I was on hiatus, playing the markets just enough to pay for GTC's to keep the accounts open, for most of a year.  Then they changed the GTC's and the price went up 50%, and I didn't want to work 50% harder to keep open accounts that I would probably never make serious use of again, and my wallet dwindled.  Anyway, now that it is clear they're not going to follow the path they were on of increasing the degree to which players function as governments for 0.0, a lot of my interest as both a player and a designer was gone.  So I let them lapse.  The main one was pre-paid until October, but he's stuck in the back of beyond and I don't feel like trying to extract him.

I'm still interested in knowing what happens with it in the future, but I don't feel the need to be a participant in order to understand it anymore.

Weren't you in FIX? If that char is stuck in Querious it might only be a few hops away from where BAT hangs out.

I'll look after him for you  this guy looks legit

Seriously, though, even if pod-jumping isn't the way you want to go, one of us can pop over a few systems with a covops and lend it to you to get out.  We're only about three jumps from Querious.

And before you say it, we knew the virtual impossibility of holding FAT when we got into this.  But the last alliance was too easy.

i never move anything bigger than a frigate w/o them.  in a hauler, i never have less than 1, though i like to have at least 2 if i don't get too greedy about how much i wanna haul.  i mean, if u hit a bubble camp in 0.0 in a slow ship, ur pretty much fucked, but if there's no bubble, WCS's, a cloak, and some smart flying will save ur ass most of the time.

learn as much as u can from ur deaths.  this game will test you.

Another thing I do is fit my hauler with a load of Multipectrum ECM, so if anyone does scram me, I jam them and warp off. Saved my ass a few times, but you would want to have semi-decent EW skills.

I use something similar on my haulers -  ECM bursts.
ECM bursts don't require a lock to break locks, are area-of-effect when/if they hit and you don't spend forever and then some to be able to apply your ewar if you have warp core stabs fitted.

Note, you can only fit a single ECM burst on your ship. Also, due to their AOE nature they are pretty much taboo in high-sec, as you get concorded if your "offensive module" hits someone not aggroed to you.

ECM bursts are good, but the range is terrible. But fitting one with a MWD and multis work well
