I've always imagined that they could do #4 and you could get all your VC from apple if you tied monster creation to the songs a person has on iTunes.  Like that one game from ps1 where you put cd's in to make the creatures...

That'd be pretty fucking dope.

Monster Rancher. Hell, you could breed web sites and see what kind of freaky critters you get from them.

Whoever got 4chan first would always win, though...

I want to breed F13 with Corpnews and see what kind of awesome offspring I get.

It's the same people.  Well, when people posted on Corp.

I was hoping for more of a redneck brother-sister mountainfolk incest baby.

If you bred f13 with corpnews you'd get waterthread.

And it would implode on itself, again.

How did this line of conversation even get 4 posts?

Do you tell Joe to his face that he was a crappy website host?  Are you all like, "Here is my latest article, oh, btw, you suck at internet, bhoo-yah!"?

J-O-K-E.

You're the one who just said, two posts ago, Waterthread was inevitably doomed to failure.  Which is funny because it's coming from the guy who now works for the guy who gave up running a diaspora website (that the first guy mostly inherited) to go make money with serious internet business in the thread about joining the second guy.

It's rather unfortunate that you don't get teh ironie.

I was banned from Waterthread for saying mean things about George Bush Jr.

Breeding with Corpnews as it is these days would be borderline necrophilia.

I think he was saying it was doomed to failure because the posters were a perfect storm of assholes and trolls and easily trolled assholes and assholish trolls.  It really had nothing at all to do with the site or with Joe, just with the denizens.  And sadly, as much as I hate to admit it, schild is right, if it happened all over again it would implode all over again.

And yes, I miss the good old days.

Refresh my memory. I don't remember waterthread ever imploding at all. Its predecessor Player2player blew up nicely and slownewsday.net exploded beautifully but as best I can recall waterthread was humming along nicely until Joe unexpectedly took it down and gave the community to Schild.

The fireworks came after that.

I'd rather someone who doesn't know just make some shit up, so let's go with that. Or you can ask Corpnews, I'm sure that take on it would be colorful and maybe more fun.

It sounds like whatever implosion happened must have been restricted to the inner circle.

Not particularly. You think I was part of the 'inner circle'? The only inner circle back then was all the people that went to corp. It was more like stagnation and children eating their young. It's not particularly interesting.

Joe didn't want to run the site anymore. How hard is that to explain? He was looking to hand the site off to someone weeks before schild agreed to it, and had been bored with the whole writing about MMOG's things for months before he gave it up. Hell, he asked me to take the site and I told him I couldn't afford the web hosting, nor was I particularly interested in being "that guy."

That doesn't explain all the silly dramatics between Joe and Schild and the Corpnews guys.  Silly dramatics that are still touchy five years later.

There weren't any silly dramatics between me and Joe.

There was only drama with the old guard because I wasn't part of the inner circle. And by inner circle I mean the cancer that was killing /waterthread/.

Heh, just realized you put me and Joe in the same grouping.

Or, yes, that's the shortest way of putting it. Because as they said, every splintering made a community dwindle even more.

Yup, sorry about that. :)  That's pretty much what all of us non-inner-circle people thought the drama was about. And that's why I'm assuming there was some kind of drama among the inner circle that led to Joe not passing the forum community along to Corpnews which would have made a lot more sense than sending us all to some half-assed movie review website run by that obnoxious new guy with the lame nickname.  Grin

Thanks for the links Schild, I'll check them out.

I've always been fascinated by the fact people assumed it was a lame nickname. When in fact, it was just my last name - it didn't become a nickname until I got on teamspeak and people didn't know what to call me when it came down to actual speaking. Of all the things, that was the thing that piqued my interest the most.

But if we want to get a little more serious, no one wants a community that eats its own young.

Edit: Wtf, Reg, you posted in the long thread I linked. Did you black out at some point in the last few years?

Joe was "inner circle" iirc.  He was one of the guys who posted at Moorlocks and the various other places that the #Hate crew did.  They felt it was a betrayal to give the MMO/ Bullshitting site to schild when he was an 'outsider.'  Plus they think he's a douche.  So, drama.

The only person still touchy about it is schild, if it's brought up. Nobody else really gives two yanks fom what I can see.

It's not the actual topic that gets me touchy about it. It's the fact that we have like 5 or 6 threads on it and without fail, every 6 months, some asshole makes it a topic again. Unfortunately, this time, that asshole was me because I fail at reading on the internet.

Edit: Oh, rite, this one too: http://www.corpnews.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=321

Ha, you mean the comment about Corp only going active long enough to get everyone an E3 pass? I was right too wasn't I?

I haven't read the 22 page monstrosity yet. Perhaps I posted in there as well. Still, I don't think I'm brain-damaged. What I was curious about was why Joe passed the community along to Schild instead of to the Corp guys that he'd known for so much longer. Maybe that got answered in the long thread.

He offered when Joe asked.  Simple as that.

See, the Corp guys aren't game guys. They're gamers, but they have other lives that take precidence.  Schild breathes games, apparently.  A fact that wasn't apparent when he took over and suddenly the thought was this was going to be a movie & media site that ignored games.  His views on MMOs didn't help that notion, particularly since the games most of the community cared about at the time were MMOs.
