Playing HD-DVDs in Vista 64 (Xbox HD-DVD Player Related, I guess)

Do you have an ATI card? You need a decoder. The ATI HD line have build in decoders.

ah wait... I did some research... your screwed. You can't play actual HD-DVDs unless you use their player. You can rip them, you can play MKV files, you can do just about anything but watch strait from the DVD. My suggestion is to just start downloading them an watching the MKVs. A lot easier than dinking around with power-DVD. You'll need a big hard-drive. My movie server is 1.3 Terabytes and filling up fast.

Played fine for me with powerdvd8 ultra, except for any web-enabled discs. I had to start playing those with no internet connection, or they'd hang forever. Heroes disc 3 and a few others I remember.

Sadly, I just nuked the drives that would have let me know what specific version. This was a few months ago, perhaps you need an older version.

I have the harddrive space. And yea, I can use AnyDVD HD to rip the HD-DVDs, but man, that's fucking annoying. :( I can not believe htere isn't a Vista HD-DVD player.

The Sting came out in widescreen on HD-DVD. It is the only format where I can find a good remaster of the movie in widescreen. It's one of my favorite movies.

HD-DVD players for the 360 worked in XP, so I bought 2. They ended up being free.

Now I can't watch the Sting. Partially because the Vista loophole got fixed and partially because I'm afraid to turn on my 360.

On that note, I've bought about 25 other HD-DVDs that weren't available on blu-ray. Like the Riddick stuff. Etc. What, they were cheap.

Heh. I still have my windows XP discs. But honestly, there's no reason to switch back to XP. Someone will eventually hack apart all the HD-DVD codec and incorporate it into BS Player or VLC with a nice little wrapper. In the meantime, almost every game works in some sort of compatibility mode.

Also, my laserdisc of The Wizard just called you a meanie.
