Thanks for the story link. Was it his fault, did someone run into him, did he wander into a klan rally? What's going on.

Morgan Freeman seriously injured in car crash

The Academy Award-winning actor Morgan Freeman has been seriously injured in a car crash.

The accident happened on Sunday night, according to the Mississippi highway patrol. At around 11.30pm local time Freeman, 71, was driving east on Highway 32 when his car skidded off the road and flipped several times.

Freeman and a female passenger were extracted from the vehicle. The actor - who was apparently conscious and talking after the accident - was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, where he was described as in a serious condition.

There was no word on the condition of the passenger.

After shooting to fame as Jessica Tandy's benign chauffeur in Driving Miss Daisy (1989), Freeman confirmed his place in Hollywood's A-list when he co-starred in The Shawshank Redemption (1994).

Freeman's career since has been consistently strong, with starring roles in Million Dollar Baby (2004) and Batman Begins (2005). He was most recently seen in Christopher Nolan's Batman sequel, The Dark Knight.

Freeman was due to star as Nelson Mandela in The Human Factor, currently in pre-production.

I know!  I love Morgan Freeman.  No one seems to know what condition he's in, either.  He could be fine or he could be all gone.  The hospital isn't saying.

Shit that's bad news :(

The kind of mini-biography on the BBC story makes it sound like they think it's going to be terminal. Really hope that isn't the case.

There still isn't a ton of info.  The last thing I saw from CNN was that the hospital finally confirmed he was a patient and people on the scene of the accident said he was conscious and even joked a bit when they were cutting him out of the car.  I hope all is okay.

Well shit.

Prepare for all of the e-news sites to start talking about the "Batman curse" now.  It was on Star when I was at the supermarket the other day and I laughed at the insanity.  With the 3rd star to get "hit" by it they'll all be frothing about it.

HIPAA dictates no info to go out, period. if he's in a hospital that takes it seriously, or got burned for violations in the past, that's all you get until you hear from his publicist. I too now dread looking for this other thread :(

I think he was talking about the games dev murder/suicide thingy.  Of course, now I'm afraid to look for it in case it was some other thread and I haven't seen it yet.   ACK!

The press report should be like:

Q: "How is Mr. Freeman?"

A: "ST" ... "ABLE" ... "STABLE"

Q: "When can he return to work?"

A: "SSS" ... "OON" ... "SOON"

Q: "What caused the accident?"

A: "K" ... "LAN" ... "KLAN"

Well broken bones and that kind of injury is not OK for somebody in their 70s its at least a lot less sever than I orginally feared when I heard of the accident. I hope he gets better soon.

It doesn't take much for somebody at that age to get them on a serious downward spiral, health-wise.

That's hilarious (your link title I mean).

Glad to see he's OK. I actually met someone who didn't like Morgan Freeman. WTH? The guy pretty much has the midas touch (chain reaction/dreamcatcher aside). I'm 2 degrees away from him - wish I could meet him someday. My friend works at a local jet manufacturer, and Freeman's a customer. Says he visits occasionally.

He lives in the Delta. Trust me, not only was Memphis closer than say Jackson hospitals, it's a sure thing that Memphis was a better hospital than any you'll find in the Delta.

My wife and i went down to Natchez area awhile ago (long story).  and i have to say the country side was amazingly beautiful (if you like swamps), but based on the quality of 90% of the homes, which i assume is due to economic status, i would be a little frightened to go to a hospital there.

I like big city hospitals.  Maybe its silly but i feel "safer" with the medical desicions made there...

Natchez isn't the Delta, it's south of the Delta. And if you thought Natchez was economically fucked, you should see the Delta. Bitches in Darfur would refuse to move to the fucking Mississippi Delta.

i know its not the Delta, but its the only part of mississippi that i stayed in, as opposed to drove through.  And it wasn't in Natchez.  Natchez seemed all kinds of old money.  it was Natchez "area"  about 30 miles east of natchez.  We did drive up highway...19? i think.  my wife was trying to find some tiny villages where old bluesmen were born.  sweet of her, didn't find shit though.  except poverty and destitution.

Poverty and Destitution should be what we rename all our rural areas to, because outside of the few cities in this state, that's all there is. And some of the cities ain't much better.
