First, new poster here.  I've been lurking the various related sites since the Lum the Mad/Slow News Day era (right when the meltdown occured).  The forums are just so goddamn entertaining (and lots of info).

Anyway, I played Eve last year for a couple of months.  I'm probably going to come back.  At the time when I last played it I had access to all content, as in there were no expansions I needed to purchase.  Will it still be the same if I resub?  I've tried finding this info on the website but couldn't find any direct answers.

AND, what're the odds of joining the F13 corp?

The internet is a place where men are men, women are men, and little boys are the FBI.

Hiya Roentgen,

Welcome to the forums! Don't feel shy.

As for EVE, you get everything when you resubscribe. The "expansions" are really upgrades, not stand-alone content like you find in other games.

I would recommend starting a brand new character unless you played for many months and trained that whole time, as the new  character creation gets you setup with a much better character than the previous version.

As for joining F13, you are more than welcome to join. We have two options:

1) The F13 Corporation, which is part of the Amarr Factional Warfare Militia. This corp is not very active, but if you wanted access to low security pvp in smaller ships, this might be an option for you. (Read more about factional warfare here: http://www.battleclinic.com/eve_online/faction_warfare.php)

2) The Bat Country Corporation, which is part of the Aegis Militia Alliance. We live in 0.0, which may not be very useful for you at first. But, once you can fly battlecruisers you can come down and kill fairly lucrative NPC pirates. If you are interested in pvp then all you need to do is learn enough skills to tackle and join us whenever it strikes your fancy, as we tend to get involved in pvp engagements whenever we can.

Neither option would be a good choice if you are interested in the manufacturing, mining, research, etc areas, but you'd be welcome to join anyways. :)

Edit: edited to add FW info link

Thanks for the info!

Here's the thing.  You're saying a new character will have more skills nowadays than one that is a couple of months old from last year?  I also have a few ships including a couple of freight haulers n things.  You can only have one character at a time, right?

[EDIT because grammar hard]

You can have up to 3 on an account, but only 1 training skills at a time. So if you think what you have is valuable you might login, see what you got in that old char, then start a new character. Once your new character is ready to go you can decide which one you want to play. More than likely you'll end up with a better set of skills on the new character and you can just transfer over the stuff from your old character.

Feel free to join the F13 channel in game to ask more questions there.

Are you serious?

Oh, and back to topic, if I remember correctly I was trying to skill up to use a mining barge. But I really want to get into PvP methinks.

So... just ditch and make a new character you think?

Try it and see what you get. If you don't like it, no one says you have to keep. :)

But if you want to pvp now, you can get into a new character with better pvp skills than one that was focusing on mining. Answer the questions during character creation and you can usually come out with a pretty nice combat character right out of the box.

There's no harm in taking your existing character and training for pvp combat, just saying you might get a better deal with a new guy.

If you still wish to mine, the Aegis Militia has some very passionate miners and manufacturers - I'm sure you could learn a lot from them if you wanted to wrap your head around this part of the game.
One of our member corp runs weekly mining operations as well to tag along with.

If, however, all you want from here on is pew pew, I'd strongly recommend to reroll. A brand new char starts with around 800k SP, so you aren't losing much skill training.

Safe skies and fare well wherever you fare :)

I'm interested in all aspects.

I just bought a Procurer class mining barge and a strip miner for it.  That's not for pew pew!   Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

Jeez, isn't it possible to be in a corp that has a nice mixture?  I want pew pew but I also sometimes want to be a hermit miner.

I guess it depends. I've never seen anyone pressured into dropping anything they were doing to come and do pvp with the corp in Bat. It's pretty well voluntary. You might not get anyone wanting to come mine with you but I doubt you'd feel any pressure to stop mining.

I would keep your miner dude around, maybe train him a bit more for it...and create another character for your pew pew guy.

My first piece of advice for new guys is to get another account going immediately (you'll thank me later).

Lemme know your in-game name an you got 10 mil isk coming.

Yeah that's what I did recently as soon as I learned that just working up the learning skills could take a couple of months...  I'll have an empire miner locked in a newb corporation for relaxation and another for PvP.  Although by the sounds of it I doubt I'll never train for and buy a hulk for the miner as they get blown up quite a bit.

EVE seems to offer more than token discounts for buying longer subscriptions so if you do that a second account isn't so bad.

If you are considering playing EvE even semi-seriously you should really listen to this advice.

I put off doing this for months, and once I did it I immediately wished I had done it sooner.  An alt can do any number of very usefull and timesaving things for you.

Bat Country is a pretty suitable corp for what you're looking for.  We have some active PvPers who hang out in 0.0 most of the time and fight things, and we also have some guys who never leave empire.  We're a very diverse group of pilots, not to mention that our alliance has 2-3 active industrial/mining corps for you to hang out with.

Thanks for the advice, but I gotta tell ya I have a personal policy of never having more than one account for an MMORPG going at once, even the same game.  In fact, I don't even use more than one character.  UO is the only game I ever played with multiple characters.  Despite the fact that this is gimping me, it's probably going to have to stay like this.

And about getting into the pew pew.  I have a Vexor cruiser with a few 250mm rail guns on it and 3 medium attack drones.  I think skilling up my drone abilities would be the best way to go for attacking.  Warp scrambling is what people refer to as tackling, right?  And that just keeps them from warping?  Stasis webifiers are basically a snare too, right?  If I want to gear up a tackling frigate and come PvP wtih everyone, is that all I need?  I just learned electronics 3 and I should have propulsion jamming 1 in 40 minutes after I log on tonight.

You'll want to learn to use MicroWarpdrives also.  That takes a small amount of skilling up in Navigation to get to, but it's worth it.  Vexor's mids for tackling are mwd/web/warp scrambler.  I fit a heavy armor plate in my lows most of the time and frigate-class railguns in the his, relying on drones for most of the damage.

If it is a money thing, you can activate your trial account and pay for it with in game money. I run 3-4 accounts and don't pay a dime.

Was just making a point. A lot of non-gankers pay for their accounts with isk and are much richer than I.

True that.  I'm still in the more money than ISK camp, so I was being a little snarky.  A second account is extremely useful.  I initially used mine to haul ore as I mined, so that I never had to switch the strip miners off.  Its also useful to run defense if you go to lowsec for better ore.  In 0.0, its invaluable as a scout so that I can keep my more expensive ships safe.

Of course, if you do go that route, invest in two PCs, a laptop for maps / forums and a large desk.  You'll need two flatscreens so that you can push them together for minimal viewing deadspace to quickly dart attention from screen to screen.  Keep a separate password for Eve than anything else.  Your bank account has the FDIC, and Eve has dick.  Destroy any naked pictures of yourself and do not accept online invitations for a threeway with the wife.  Oh, and train your learning skills as soon as possible.

2.  A furry self-important asshat with financial interests in WWIIOL and has a fascination with charts.  As a side note, I got into an argument with him on the WWIIOL boards about how things were promised and simply NOT in game at all.  Things that were advertised.  His argument was that in the original release of UO, there were silver coins on the UO box but no silver coins to be found in game & people loved UO so it must be okay.
3.  Waterthread was the last pre-f13 site which was named after a thread which I BELIEVE was started by Arcadian Del Sol.  Not sure on that tho.
