Health reasons mostly. Maple Syrup is full of calories.

Yes, that's sausage AND red eye gravy with that country ham, biscuits grits and eggs.

and after a light lunch of Chicken and dumplings and veggie plate of turnip greens creamed corn and some great northerns seasoned with a big hamhock... (Your cornbread and sweet tea are sadly not pictuered)

Have some fried dill pickles as a snack - ranch dressing/dip not pictured

Now that is  eating southern :)

The pics came from roadfood's review of Blue and White, a place up in Tunica. I've been there when I would eat such things and it was good, although not exceptional, however such fare has to be truly special  and just good is miles better than what you'd find anywhere else outside of the south.

Now, I'm  far more conscientious about what foes into my body. Tonight its raw veggies with a nice spicy hummus I prepare with some grilled marinated chicken.

Snake, White House up in Bucks is just as good.  maybe not both gravies but about the same.

Further edit.

Tiny Diny  is your best bet in Mobile. although there were some great soul food places  in Prichard, but you know you'd look funny going there :)

Believe it or not, I used to go to Maddie's on Telegraph that was an old train car.  Don't know if it's still there.  And a few of us go to the Elks Lodge over on the Afrikatown Bridge on White Man's Wednesdays every so often.

Tiny Diny is so overrated, IMHO.

LOL.

Well.  You'd have to know the area.  We (as in white people) are allowed there once a month.  I'm not kidding.

Nevertheless, it's the best bbq in town.

Wouldn't that be slightly backwards in this situation?

I love all breakfast foods from all cultures.  Except those that contain melon.

I hate melon.
Have you actually ever had breakfast in Asia before? Some of those items are a bit...odd.

Hell yeah it is.  Probably the only breakfast food outside of cereal I actually eat.  I just... cannot stand southern breakfast foods.  My mother-in-law dragged us to places all over Texas and it was just... my heart...

Well it served a purpose once upon a time. Now it's kind of pointless to eat like that. Breakfast now is yogurt  with homemade granola or an egg and some turkey backon, with juice

Cottage cheese and a glass of tomato juice.

Or maybe a ham, cheese and mushroom omelet.

Or a bowl of Kashi.

Huh? I'm confused. Pho is Vietnemese Noodle soup, with Beef or other unidentifiable meat products. Are we talking bout the same thing as being a breakfast food?

I'm a big fan of biscuits and sausage gravy.  And grits with butter, salt and pepper.

Goddamn, sometimes it sucks living in New England. sad

Texas is not southern. Thats a whole diffrent world over there. Please do not try to lump anything Texas does into southern culture.

Thanks.

I thought oats were okay for gluten free diets.  Not even pure oats?    ACK!  Substitute vodka!   Ohhhhh, I see.

Coming from California to Memphis really played hell on my waiste line.  I've always like the "southern" cuisine that my family cooks, but since living here I've found that the insane amounts of deep frying that occurs in this city is sickening.  I try to avoid it for the most part now but i'm pretty sure that breathing the air alone is worth ~100 calories.  So now i stick to my yummy ribs...i know its not much better but my brain says its better since its not deep fried... swamp poop
