Netflix now shows you the top 25 films for a certain city or zipcode!  It works perfectly too, for example in Arizona (3 movies picked from the top 5 for the area):

Scottsdale (sophisticated successful older people with bunches of money):
3:10 to Yuma
Snow Falling on Cedars
The Cider House Rules

Gilbert (Lots of families):
Barbie Mermaidia
Treasure Planet
R.L Stine's The Haunting Hour

Tempe (ASU is here):
Dazed and Confused
There's Something About Mary
Donnie Darko

and then I did Baltimore for kicks:
The Boys of Baraka
Oz: Season 4
The Corner

I can't conceive of Cider House Rules being on anyones top five list.

A movie that you Netflix is one that you didn't want to see in the theater, didn't want to buy, and didn't mind waiting to rent.  Netflix lists make a lot more sense if you keep that in mind.

I suspect that is less true for "sophisticated successful older people with bunches of money". They don't go to the theater, it's full of poorer people and teenagers.

Weird combination (this is around Oregon City, Oregon)

1. Without a Paddle

2. The Omega Man

3. Bones: Season 2

Edit: Here is Portland, Oregon.

1. My Own Private Idaho

2. I Like Killing Flies (I forgot I had seen this on IFC or Sundance)

3. Trailer Park Boys: Season 4 (?)

It's nice to see Carnivale made it onto the list, even if it is #25.

I noticed this feature and thought "oh neat" and then I thought about it some more. Why do I care what my neighbors are watching? Some of them are morons.

I KNOW, that is what makes this so great.

I would consider this a great utility for making decisions where to live when moving to new areas.

Oh fuck, we can racially stereotype and profile according to taste in movies now?

The internet is amazing.

I think I'm gonna hit up Tempe for some weed and then head out to Baltimore for some illegal arms, hardcore narcotics, and fat hookers.

I need to do a search to find some kickass pulled pork sandwiches. I suppose I should do a search for Alabama and Georgia.

Uh.. yeah..

Here's the message I got:

Members in and around Brandon, MS are currently renting these titles much more than other Netflix members.

There currently isn't enough data to show Local Favorites for this area. Please try another area.

I don't hate. The farmer's almanac listed Mississippi as having not discovered fire yet. I trust that consortium of rednecks and their trick knees.

That's where I learned to HATE HATE HATE Tobey Macguire.  He even ruined the spider-man movies for me.

Exhibit A: You've got a buck naked Charlize Theron lying down in front of you.  The appropriate expression to convey is not "wistful longing".  He flat out sucks as an actor.

Waldo's BBQ in Mesa. I'm not a big fan of pulled pork, but people I know from the southeast love the place. I like their bbq shredded chicken. Amazing.
