I'm tempted to go SLI since my 8800 GTS (G92) has come down a fairly good bit in price since I bought it. Not sure how much it matters, but I run at 1920x1200 resolution on all my games - well, the ones that allow it, anyway.
I'd love to hear some real world experiences with it.

You would probably get more performance for just upgrading your one card to a newer one. But I cant talk from first hand experience.

I was running a pair of 8800gt in sli. It was okay, but I'm not noticing much performance difference now that I'm just running a single. And it was kind of a pain to get games set up to use it.
And I'm running everything at 1920x1200

What they said.
The answer to the subject line question is "no".
SLI is cool, but not worth it. Games have to support SLI to use it. Unless you are very rich, single-card technology will outpace your SLI long before you get enough value from the double card investment.

Not exactly SLI but basically the same,I'm running dual 1650s in a crossfire set-up and as mentioned not a lot of games with support for it.It has seemed to extend the usability of the older cards,so far I'm still able to crank everything to high/max settings but I'm not sure if that's related to the dual cards or not.My next video upgrade will just be a top end ATI single card and see from there.

I bought a mobo without SLI.
But I'm very picky about gpus and buy one that will last a long time and kick ass its entire life. Then I research and buy a replacement that will do the same. Nature of pc gaming, there aren't many good shortcuts imo.
Note that currently I have a fixed pixel panel 1280x720, so my 8800gtx should be good for a while.

Tom's Hardware has some charts showing SLI and non-SLI benchmarks. Be careful doing cross comparisons, though, since the SLI benchmarks aren't all identical to the non-SLI ones.
