Dang it.  I wonder if I can engineer a business trip down there...

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

Release events are generally pretty good.  It'll be Sealed:  the most luck dependent and least knowledge testing method of building a deck.  Generally,  Sealed is the most friendly to casual/semi-serious types.

Usually lots of great free swag just for taking part (decent foil rare from the set to all comers),  and depending on size, some decent prizes if you do well.

So I got more infos:

Lunch at this Thai place at 12:00 PM, $10.00-ish.
Sealed at 1:00 PM, $20.00 USD.
Drafts all day, $12.00 USD.

Haven't heard anything about the promos though. I'd be willing to guess Tattermunge Maniac or Boggart Ram Gang will be one considering all of the buzz about Red Deck Wins lately.

Anyone who attends this has to also make references to how Phil has the shaven head of a baby.

Last time we met up, he didn't have the shaven head of a baby.

Is there some innuendo or something I don't know about here?

my what do we have here?

Now he literally has a baby's head with all the hair shaved off.  It's creepy and it's starting to smell.

The Release promo card is Vexing Shusher, the 2/2 for 2 "can't be countered" guy that has the ability to make creatures spells uncounterable.  Actually pretty sweet card,  that's going for a decent amount online.

How did the Tampa release go?

I actually ended up playing in the release here.  Small showing at the local store,  ended up drawing into first and walking away with 30 booster packs.

I got to absolutely beat the crap out of a little girl.  Highlight of my week, really.  She even tried to get away with the "I'm a kid, I can cheat and you won't say anything" routine.

Little girls play magic now?  You sure it wasn't a little boy precariously low on testosterone?

Well, they ran Sealed with about 45 people, ran a six round swiss and then had the top eight draft. I had something come up after round two that I had to take care of, so I left 1-1. My only loss was to an eventual top-8 finisher, but my deck wouldn't have fared well in the pool; I just didn't have any bombs to deploy. Mostly I was trying to hang on with Tattermunge Duo x3, Firespout x1, and Incremental Blight.

My U/W pool was garbage. I didn't get a single Kithkin Lightsaber.

However, Phil's deck was pretty good, I thought his record of 2-3-1 was a little on the low side for what he should've been.

Also, I'd point out that at my local shop, we have about ten people who routinely try to qualify for Pro Tour events, and their ratings hover around 1800-1900. If you're winning here, you're doing a great job.

However, Vexing Shusher is nice. Fits my RDW sideboard quite nicely.

Hopefully I'll have more stories tonight because it's my draft night.  DRILLING AND MANLINESS

To be fair, I would have been 2-2-2 if I'd had five more minutes for my last match.  And my losses also came to Top 8s.  So there!

1-2 last night. Got forced into playing GWU even though I would've rather played B/R.
Guys next to me kept cutting me off because they couldn't figure out what they wanted to play. Plus, my pod may have well been a top-8 table of a big event -- I ended up playing the guy who won states who was 1-1 in the last round.  DRILLING AND MANLINESS
