This is the first game where I'm really missing dual shock (and may go either buy a controller or maybe a steering wheel).

About "robust online game", many whine about the extreme amount of dickheads around (crashing at every corner and messing with your race) more than actual suckiness. Getting in a race is very quick and easy, and it pays off money you can use to buy cars, so you can grind while racing online instead of having to repeat the same offline race over and over. Voice chat, which is mostly unnecessary, is coming with the next patch, as are the private room/races. Speaking of which, that is the biggest weakness so far: the absence of private rooms, so yes you can only race random people and not your friends. But then again a patch is coming and the game prologue is huge as it is. Online real time rankings and downloadable replays are Bottom line: the online is definitely robust. It only needs private races, which are definitely important and are coming in the next patch. Everything else is simply heaven.

This is the first iteration of the Dual Shock I've cared about. It weighs about 75% more than the Sixaxis, which is just super nice. Also, the rumble goes from subtle to "will fall off the table." It's just awesome.

That GTR is friggin' sweet.
[edit] On another note, I can't get past B class, because of that damn Impreza challenge. It's hard enough for me to even make 4th. So I'm just grinding with that Nissan above. My other really good car is a Ford GT, but the GTR kicks it's ass in my opinion. Not as fast, but it's glued to the road.

Impreza challenge?
I guess Europe and NA have different challenges then. Odd. Wheel or not, I am struggling to win the last race of the S class driving the Ford GT. I don't want to win it with anything else than a Ford GT so it's tweaking time.
On a side note, do you NA people have the GTR videos in GT-TV available already? Love that stuff, and that car.

Haven't checked out the videos...
There's two Impreza challenges actually. One in C class, and one in B. It's one of those races where you start at last place, and have to move your way up to at least third place by the end of 1 lap. The C class one was easy... The Impreza's a pretty fast car there. The B class race? Not so much. Most of the cars there are equal (although there's a BMW Z series in the lineup, which is kind of screwed up). I thought that I was a pretty good GT player, but it seems like they want perfection just to place in 3rd.

It's all based on which car you pick first. The Impreza challenges are when you pick the impreza. Type R when you pick Type R, etc. Also, Stray, perfection still places first. You just, ahem, aren't that good. HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR HAR

I'd admit it if I was that bad, I don't care.
[edit] Also, what do you mean it's based on the car you picked first? I only bought an Impreza because the challenge said I had to. I only had one car before that.

It might default to Impreza (if you go look at the events before picking a car). But I bought a car at a dealership before doing anything, as did my roommate and it was all tailored to that car.

Same here. I bought the Type R (and a bunch of others) just because they were required. Didn't spend money on "my" cars until Class S. Up to that point I only bought what was required and a Ferrari for the Son.

Seems like I should just start over again and try the Type R. I've done this race at least 50 times. I just can't beat it. Made a lot of cash though...

The full version of this game may actually get me to buy a Nex-Gen console.

Random: Am I the only guy who never liked rumble? The dildo in the gamepad buzzing when my ship blows up, or whatever, isn't giving me a more realistic simulation of my flaming death, it's just annoying.

I don't have a strong opinion about it either way, but.... The original PS3 controllers are too light. So if anything, they're better off now just because of that.

I don't like rumble. Never liked it, in any game.
Force Feedback for steering wheels though it's almost a necessity.

I can't get past the B-Class start from behind race either, 6th is about as good as I have gotten in about 20 tries, I seem to only be able to put together a good 1/2 race, either the front half or the back half.
I picked up the newly released steering wheel, pure love.... The wife was a tad annoyed I dragged the kitchen table into the TV room (its right next to the kitchen) so that I could mount the wheel but after about 10 races to get the feel for it, the wheel rocks. I was very impressed about how strong the feedback on the wheel was, the feedback really mimics the driving conditions. At high speed on a bumpy straight, it you take your hands off the wheel the car starts to "speed wobble" out of control very cool.

Thank you! I knew that I couldn't be alone on that.
I need to get a steering wheel myself... Don't have shit for accessories. Should get an Eye too..some of those downloadable games look interesting.

We rented this tonight, took about 4 hours to gold out on C and B classes, need to buy some new cars though, the GT-R apparently isn't japanese enough for the jap challenges, so it looks like I'm buying a new NSX, an f430, and probably the GT-40 for the muscle car challenge.

F430 wins everything (and it's so easy to drive) up to A class. S class is a different beast cause you have to tweak cars and PP (Performance Points), and the F430 isn't (!) powerful enough.
I wonder if you're having a hard time on that B-class race because of the pad. I am afraid that the game, driving aids or not, isn't forgetful enough to be played effectively with a pad.

I've been doing just fine with a pad, however I think it would be FAR more fun (and easier) with the wheel.

I also can't seem to get past the come from behind challenge in B class. So far I have only gotten to 6th (I must really suck) and now that GTAIV is coming out tomorrow I doubt I will ever get past it. If someone has some sage words of advice I'm all ears. I have even watched youtubes of people doing the race to see exactly what line they are taking and I just cant seem to be carrying enough speed through the corners no matter how good I think my line is.
Also, I would love to have the steering wheel but I can't think of a good way to mount it to my Sumo bean bag chair.

I got my best times by turning the difficulty settings up, real physics and turning off the traction control, the car seems to slide without losing as much speed Placed 2nd by a bumper after probably 100 tries. I also seemed to do better by trying 20 in a row, walking away for a bit then my best times were the first game back. Good luck!
