Let's see...  There's a Japanese-themed land now, with corresponding skills (bushido, ninjitsu) and equipment available.  There are (ick) elves now, and a nature-magic skill called spellweaving that either race can get if they do the quest.  There are some simple newb quests that all involve raising a given skill to 50, that give newb items.  High-end gear is easier and less expensive to get, since they buffed the drop rate of artifacts in Doom.

That's about it.  Roll on Great Lakes or Atlantic and I'll throw some newb cash at you.

All of which are good reasons why the UO forum is in the graveyard.

I'll just Den the thread for you.

*ahem*

So yeah, Trammel totally saved the game.  Nobody wanted to play the old PVP game, that's why everyone was quitting for EverQuest.  Trammel saved the game, as I will totally prove with the following chart.

That's the wrong chart, WUA.  Pull out THE chart.

Jesus fucking christ, WUA! There are TWO - 2! - blue lines. Which one is "blue one?" Just goes to show that UO is so fucked up its fans can't do anything right!

Note: green text omitted because the sarcasm should be fucking obvious but I added this disclaimer because there is always one sarcasm blind nitwit.

I actually think that there being two blue lines but only one label (titled "blue one") is comic genius.  Well played, sir.   (The time-defying "loop the loop" on "fun" is good stuff as well).

Evolved does not mean improved, only that it has adapted to differing conditions.

One of those lines needs to reset midway through, then start the dip into negative numbers.  Then it will truly be the chart of all charts.   As it is, it's pretty damn close, and gave me a good laugh.

I'm much enjoying my mixed diet of both UO and WoW.  Sometimes you want polish and clearly defined goals, other times you just want to get off the treadmill and roll a samurai/necromancer/archer and tinker with your house.

I say "devolved" because UO has been around for so long, but I don't really mean it in a bad way. Stagnate or idle might have been better. Right now there are a bunch of games out there not worth looking at and even more on the horizon. Players seem to be stuck with EVE, WoW, and UO which are all games that have been around for a little while. Instead of jumping on to new games, many players here are leapfrogging between old standards.

If I was going to try out something new, it would probably be PotBS.

I think it really says something about my utter disgust with DIKUs that this actually sounds like a good idea.

I've come to accept that while I can roll a necromancer/warrior template that I like and which is fairly unique, the price is putting up with other people who are ninja/paladin/bards or whatever.  While I can put together some armor in a distinctive red-and-black color scheme, the price is putting up with other people who think making everything they own bright blue is fashionable.

If that and the overall directionless feeling of the game aren't floating my boat, I go play WoW for a while.  And once I'm sick of being on rails and looking like everyone else and I'm ready to scream, well, it's time for a little UO.

Sorry man.  I think EQ2, CoH, and DAoC would be further up the list than UO were I to quit playing WoW.  I may go back to a WoW PvE server for some mindless PvE action if you're interested.

I was at Brit bank just a little while ago, goofing off since WoW was down for maintenance, when a former guildmate (whom I hadn't seen in the three years since she quit) just walked up and said hello.  Blew my mind.

If I was going to ever dabble again, it would be a freeshard without all the retarded new stuff. I had some fun and pwned some dudes the last time....but Eve has me now...the dirty little bitch that she is.

UO invented PETS!

Ok, not really, but the answer is yes.  You can even stick at it long enough to have DRAGONS as pets.  Tamer was one of the most popular skills in the game actually.  At one time it was the most powerful too (both PvE and PvP.)  I'm not sure about today.

You can even have multiple pets. One of my favorite UO characters was Tarzan. I ran around naked with nothing but a knife, tamed everything I could, then used all my beasts to kill more beasts. I used the meat from the dead beasties to feed the live beasties. And that's all I did. UNGA BUNGA!

At one point, I had a flock of birds following me around.  You ever see an Ogre get taken down by a bunch of songbirds?
