I'll avoid a new topic incase its been mentioned elsewhere, but they have also announced the downloadable content coming nextmonth:

Sounds like 400 pts for about 90 minutes worth of adventure. Not sure what I think of that.

Every other? All but one, I think.

Happy Sky. May isn't bad at all, about on par with Rockstar's conversion time. Way better than Jade Empire's lag :)

Awesome. Now I no longer need to buy a 360, that was the last "exclusive" title I was looking forward to playing.

 Thumbs up!

About goddamned time.

I'm having it installed on my machine this afternoon so I can write tutorial popup strings.

You going to be fixing the "inventory system" while you're in there?

Dammit Jim, I'm a writer, not a tech designer.

From the press release:

Quote
Optimized for the PC, Mass Effect for the PC incorporates the following features:

* Optimized controls designed specifically for the PC.
* High resolution visuals - Mass Effect for the PC features highly detailed textures, characters and environments.
* Fully customizable controls - PC gamers can re-map the control scheme any way they like.
* Run & Gun Control - Players can assign biotic powers or skills to 'hot keys' allowing them to play Mass Effect with a heavier focus on action.
* New decryption mini-game.
* New inventory screen GUI and functionality - The enhanced inventory system makes it easier for players to equip and modify their weapons and armor.

Step 1: Buy Xbox 360 mostly for Mass Effect
Step 2: Play Mass Effect
Step 3: Xbox 360 breaks
Step 4: Mass Effect for the PC announced
Step 5: Hate life

Seriously, fuck Microsoft and their shitty fucking console.

I've spent more money for less value. At least I didn't buy the PS3 for Uncharted yet. But only because taking away the backwards compatibility pissed me off!  awesome, for real

Amusingly enough, this announcement has pretty much sealed my decision to get a PS3 instead of a 360, as there's a few exclusive PS3 titles that'll never come out on PC, whereas all the supposed 360 exclusives seem to inevitably get PC-ported 6 months later. I can stand a bit of a wait. Lets you guys take the brunt of the New Releases shitstorm for me.

Granted, I probably won't actually get a PS3 for another year or so, but it's On Notice.

When I say mostly I mean it was the tipping point. There's reason to own a 360 beyond mass effect and I do have other games, Mass Effect was just the game that got me off the fence. I certainly wouldn't go out and buy a console if only one game had me interested.

I also don't regret the purchase because of Mass Effect for PC, I regret it because the shitty console broke and I have to fuck around getting it fixed and this announcement is salt on the wound.

The Xbox and Xbox 360 are PC Lite. All worthwhile Xbox/360 games come to the PC eventually.

Some games are just better on console.

Examples:

Fighting Games, especially 2-player ones.
Racing Games.
Light Gun Games.
Wrestling Games.
Party Games.

Others are better on PC:

FPS
3PS
RTS
TBS
Western RPGs

I could extend both lists a bit more, but you get the idea. Doesn't mean both can't do some of the other's ones well, but, like I said, you get the idea.

I prefer third person shooters on the console.

Mostly because they're about... 3 times less twitchy than FPS titles. And have a cone of fire instead of a point for most weapons.

TBS is better on Console. Unless you mean 4x/Civ. Which I consider a different genre from TBS (which means Disgaea-likes, FFT, Advance Wars, etc).

RROD was an issue long before Mass Effect, so you should have known better.

And that having been said, I did the same thing with the original Xbox - which is why I haven't bought a 360. Althought Culdcept Saga is a serious temptation, I knew Mass Effect would eventually get the port to PC.

Hey, let's have the whole console v. PC discussion in a thread about a ported/not-yet-ported game!  awesome, for real

The whole PC gaming from the couch isn't logistically, aesthetically, or financially possible or even appealing to some people.  So much so that it might as well not even exist.  But my large HD TV does, and it begs to be used and abused in relative comfort.

FIN.

Rasix, we have another computer hooked up to the LCD in the living room for Steam. It has a mouse, keyboard, and sits on a coffee table at the perfect height for...gaming.

That said, agreed.

I have one of those, too. But still...

Soul Calibur 2-player
etcetera

And yes, I was talking Civ/4x, (TBS) but I also prefer my X-Coms and Falout Tactics/Jagged Alliance on PC. FFT on ps1 was fun though. Those are more TBT, though.
I'm using the Max Payne titles and GTA series as my 3rd-person gold standard, and PC control wins for me.

Anyway, I'll buy ME when it eventually comes out on PC, and can take it off the uhming and ahhing 360 list. Hopefully it's modabble to include full contact hardcore.
Because it's not like I have access to pornography on the internet anyway. Ohhhhh, I see.
