Now this is a good move. More software at a lower price can only encourage more people to pick up PS3s. I know that being able to get quite a lot of good quality games for the 360 at way below the standard AU$110 ass-reaming was a key factor in my decision to pick one up. Even better is that places like play-asia will become doubly-cheap because of the unrestricted games.

PS3 to get budget range in Japan
Probably coming to other territories soon.

IGN is reporting that Sony Japan will be launching an official budget range of PlayStation 3 games late next month.

Included in the line-up are Resistance: Fall of Man, Ridge Racer 7, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, FolksSoul and Gundam: Target in Sight. The games will be priced at 3,800 yen (AU 39.20 / GBP 18) and will be available on the 18th of March.

This information comes from Japanese retailers rather than Sony.

When contacted by GamesIndustry.biz about the availability of such a range in Europe, Sony stated that they "have introduced a Platinum range of best-selling titles for all of our platforms to date, and it is likely that we will do so in the future for PS3. However, no decisions have yet been made on timing or line-up."
