Comic book giant and publisher end relationship

Electronic Arts and Marvel Entertainment have terminated an agreement to create titles based on the comic giant's intellectual property.

The deal was first announced in 2004 and allowed EA to create games featuring multiple Marvel characters despite rival publishers owning the rights to specific characters, such as Activision's Spider-Man deal.

EA was allowed to create new characters for inclusion in the games, which Marvel would then spin-off into other media, most notably comic books.

The first fruit of this deal was the poorly-received Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects game released in 2005. EA Chicago was also said to have been working on a Marvel fighting game, but the studio was closed down late last year.

"EA and Marvel have jointly agreed to discontinue development of the Marvel titles under the EA Games label," said the company, reports GameTap.

"This was a business decision based on EA's portfolio strategy."

Wasn't EA supposed to be doing the Marvel MMOPUGGER?

That too.. Wouldn't mind seeing what Capcom could do with Marvel besides fighting games as well. LP and Bionic Com have the grappler thing goin' on... There's your spidey game right there.

"REALLY INSANELY HUGE PICTURE"

That.

Also, this has got to be the smartest thing Marvel has done in a long time. Not to be an EA hater but everything they touch becomes  swamp poop

I'm looking forward to Bad Company and that TF2 ripoff BF.

Actually, there's a whole pile of EA stuff I'm looking forward to. Some genres, however, they shouldn't touch. Like fighting.

They stopped releasing shitty game after shitty game?

It ended back with C&C3, like, a year ago or whatever. In fact, I publically announced it.

Nintendo devved console games are still being boycotted though. Smash Bros can eat a dick.
