It has nothing to do with being female.  I see plenty of gorgeous male actors and if they have mediocre talent, I don't go out of my way to learn their names.  Sometimes I do, but it's not intentional.  I also don't visit celebrity fan sites or anything.  A lot of the f13 men here seem to revel in knowing all about good looking, boobified female actors who are mostly forgettable when it comes to their work.  Do you see the boobs and run for internet or sommat?  Don't get me wrong, I don't mind learning about the work of some of these people, although I could really care less about their personal stuff... some of them have even turned out to be decent.  Having said that, it seems the majority (young male actors included) I read about here are not very special in the talent department.  A lot of them seem to be teens or star in teen type films and tv shows, too.

Just sayin'....

Don't worry, Siggie, you're not the only old fart around here. I rarely know who the hell is hosting SNL or the Grammies or whatever. It's not a bad thing, since most of them are talentless hacks anyway.

Signe, its the very fact that the actresses are not talented yet have great gazongas that broadens their appeal. Men don't have to consider them in the same category as someone with talent, so they can become the repository for lust, humor and in general, the all popular shattenfreunde schadenfreude of knowing that although you're not famous, you're not as big a joke as them. Its not particularly psychically healthy, but that's men for ya.

Edit for misspelling schadenfreude. Murgos laughed at me and now I'm going to go cry.

sniped rant

I could totally defend myself you know. But she's hot. Like... Jessica Alba level of hot. And honestly, I don't really know many good movie (as in the difference between cinema and theatrical) actresses anyway, so.... yeah, I know the names of the very hot ones :)

As a matter of fact I swallowed one of these about two hours ago and the explanation is that it is, in fact, my hand.

Weeks 49-51: read all the text books a couple of times, writing down forty or so full case citations for each course, together with the salient points (this should be about one sentence for each).  You have now distilled the course onto one sheet of A4.
The critical flaw in your plan:  Where is Strazos going to get A4 paper around these parts?

A lot of the f13 men here seem to revel in knowing all about good looking, boobified female actors who are mostly forgettable when it comes to their work.  Do you see the boobs and run for internet or sommat?
Yes, they're men.

Sure, they may appreciate an actress of fine talent, but c'mon... boobies!  Their presence shuts down higher brain functions.

That kind of frat mentality is not representative of our entire gender. In fact, I don't have a clue about the kind of mindset you're referring to. Who cares if you're not famous? Being famous is overrated.

Takes all kinds. Most guys here seem to find Jessica Alba hot, I think she looks vapid and unattractive. My tastes run more toward Susan Tedeschi, Nancy Wilson or Emmylou Harris. Sexy AND talented.

Boobs do have an effect on higher brain functions for sure, but after copious amounts of exposure, it's much more controllable than otherwise. For me, if it's not a total package, it doesn't even matter. I'm about talent and personality and intelligence, much rarer than beauty. Without them, beauty is just empty and kinda sad.

A lot of the actors I see mentioned look familiar but I don't seem to retain the names unless I've really enjoyed the film or admired their acting.  Sometime not even then.  I suck at memory.  I always remember Jessica Alba because she has the prettiest skin colour I've ever seen.  Truthfully, I rarely notice boobies unless they're obscenely huge and don't move ever and those I don't remember with any sort of admiration.  I don't notice crotches, either, regardless of gender.  I like faces.  Pretty ones are nice to see but it's not enough to remember the actor's name or anything.  Faces with character, however, I can usually remember the owner.

I think one thing that sort of baffles me is that a lot of the films I've seen discussed positively here have really been awful.   I mean TRULY, MADLY, DEEPLY awful.  Well, my opinion, of course.  Some have even become well-known just for their awfulness.  And some of the people who reccommend them are people who I wouldn't think could tolerate that level of suck.

Ah, Sky, my sensitive and talented friend, I thought I belonged in that category too. Then I spent a month at sea in a regatta with very few women around. When I got off the docks, it was all I could do to not dry hump the souvlaki salesgirl at the harbormaster's hut.

TRULY, MADLY, DEEPLY

You lose points in your criticism for quoting the title of a Savage Garden song.  In caps.

Rhona Mitra played one of the lead roles in the first season of a TV show I love, which is one of the reasons I know her name.  She was also the sex appeal in the Ali G movie, and one of the more important supporting characters in The Life of David Gale.

The above was done without IMDB.  The following is after: Shooter, The Number 23, Sweet Home Alabama, Get Carter, and appearances on several episodes of Party of Five and The Practice, the show that Boston Legal was spun off of.

So it's not like she's a minor actress who played the token hottie in one or two films.

Is that a better justification for knowing who she is?  Please and thank you.

Also: BOOBS!

I'm not entirely sure that the words "actress" and "Rhona Mitra" can actually be put together in the same sentence at the same time as keeping a straight face.  Then again, I haven't seen "The Life of David Gale" which is the only film in that list which would make me think "likely to be a showcase for leet acting skillz".

You are missing out the fact that she was also the first (or at least, one of) models to be the physical incarnation of Lara Croft.  After that, she went on to play the token hottie in one or two films (getting her tits out in Hollow Man being one of the highlights of both her career and that film).  She's also about to play the lead in Neil Marshall's post-apocalyptic film "Doomsday".

Basically, she appears to be the female equivalent of Jason Statham.

I was kind of weary of Statham (post Guy Ritchie films at least), but the movie London is good, just for his part alone. That was pretty good acting, in my opinion.

[edit] My favorite (living) actress: Jennifer Jason Leigh! She isn't very hot these days though. I'm not sure if she ever really was actually. But she's a damn chameleon. Better than Blanchett even (probably my second favorite). Also like Julia Ormond. [edit] Oops, wtf am I saying? Can't even get my favorite actresses right. I meant Juliet Binoche.

Okay, she's not the hottest woman in Hollywood, but she plays dirty-hot better than most of the others.  And her role in David Gale isn't much more than that, either.  She's really not that fantastic of an actress =)

I saw Davie Gale, which was good, and I didn't remember her until I looked up a picture of her in it.  Also, when I think "truly, madly, deeply" I think of that Alan Rickman film before I think of some naff soft pop band.  It's one of the few girly films I liked.

PS  I have enjoyed Jason Statham but only when he plays a wide boy.  He should be a London day trader IRL.  But, yeah, he needs help with acting most of the time.  I did like him in Lock, Stock, etc. though.  BACON!  His name smells like Schildy's breath!
