Does anyone know of either a convenient tool, or equasion, or something, which can be used to quickly determine EXACTLY what your optimum firing distance is when using a given type of Gun and a given type of ammo?

I have a general idea how the distances for orbiting stuff for effective damage work, but i have recently been messing around with some different setups on my ship, and often find myself wondering if i was orbiting 5 km closer, would i be hitting a LOT harder.

(For reference, im flying minmatar, and have just been playing around with different types of Autocannons / Artillery)

Quickfit has a simulator tab where you can see what your average DPS will be versus various targets at different ranges.

Quickfit is primarily a ship fitting tool but most pilots I know use EFT to work out fits as it's nicer to use, it's just missing all the nice simulators in quickfit.

eft will show you optimal for each gun based on skills and ammo. hard to see, but look between the module and the ammo - you will see 14.2+12 which is your optimal (26.2 in this case)

EFT?

Also, can't you just put up your radar thingie in space and hover your mouse over each weapon to see the bubble for your max and optimal ranges for each gun?

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe

Is "right click > show info, on your gun when the ammo is loaded" too obvious?

Thats what I do, but that only works if you have the ammo/gun available. EFT will give me differences in ammo so I can tell if I want to bother even trying to get some (like faction ammo).

For proper consideration of transversal, you should look at the damage spreadsheet.

Turrets are not difficult. For PvE, always engage in your optimal and just use web on stuff one size smaller and use drones on stuff two sizes smaller. Easily sorted.

When using artillery in missions where you take a lot of punishment, it can be rather handy to fight in your falloff range if it allows you to stay out of the range of the rats.
