Depressing really. I'm almost starting to believe that "rule of threes".

Rodney Dangerfield, Reeves, who next?

Ken Caminiti died today from a heart attack at age 41.  Don't know if that would count as #3.

Rodney Dangerfield, Chris Caminiti, and Christopher Reeves. All from heart failure if I remember correctly.

Not suprising considering the fact that he was doing steroids during his playing days.

Same here, I thought he had a pretty good shot if stemcell research ever took off. Ah well, this once again proves that riding horses is deadly fun.

Sigh, a piece of Superman dies with him. RIP.

Hmm, he still had episodes of Smallville to film. :(

Chris Reeve was a fellow alum of Williams College, and lived near Williamstown with his horses until he died.  I saw him in town back when he could still walk, when he was involved in the college theater festivals every summer.   Before his career as Superman, he had established himself as a stage actor, and he continued his love of theater long after he gained Hollywood fame.

Of course we all know how he comported himself after his accident.  By an odd coincidence, my wife's high school boyfriend became a paraplegic after a mugging years later in New York City, and he ended up going on a speaking tour with Chis Reeve.  She heard by e-mail about how inspirational and unpretentious Chris was.  He sincerely believed that his fame gave him an opportunity to help others in need.

So, RIP Chris Reeve.

Please dont cheapen his death by waving his corpse around on a political flagpole. Give the body time to cool before you start using it to make election talking points.

Man, that is really sad. It seemed like he had been making a lot of progress physically the past couple of years.

Ken Caminiti doesn't surprise me. He abused the ever-living shit out of his body with steroids  and cocaine (those are the KNOWN ones).

I fucking hate horses. What happened to Christopher Reeve did not improve my opinion.

Farewell, Superman. In my eyes, you were one of the good ones.

I saw Mr Reeve give a talk during a dinner function I was attending at the Rockefeller Center in NYC about 3 years ago.  I could care less about Hollywood figures themselves - but the strength he displayed in dealing with this condition became an example for the rest of us - and elevated him to new levels of respect no acting career could attain.

Money and brains don't go hand in hand - and to make a long story short - in a room with some of NYC's wealthiest were some of the most assinine questions to Mr Reeve at the conclusion of his talk.  I wanted to melt into the ground I was so humiliated by the "well to do" in the room.  But Mr Reeve handled it - he did not get offended ("has your injury changed your relationship with your wife?") or angry ("what right do you have to talk about population control").

A gentleman in every sense of the word so far as I could see.

He has been a great spokesman for my community (Biotechnology) as well has a great example of one of the finer moments a human being can exhibit.

Don't blame the horse. It was a tragic accident, but horses weren't exactly born to be put in tack and jumped over fences with you on top of them.

Unless that is why the breeders bred them, in which case that's exactly why they were born. However, it's still unlikely to be the horse's fault.

I'm sure someone on Capitol Hill is already salivating over the idea of the "Christiopher Reeve" bill to support stem cell research.

And it would still be a good thing, despite the mercenary nature of using his death to forward a political agenda.

I kept expecting them to do the same with Reagan.  I wonder how the poor fundamentalists are going to stop the political juggernat that the Reagan-Reeves Biotech Initiative will be.

I'd be absolutely thrilled that my death could lead to meaningful legislation to help others.  Especially if it was a topic to which I'd devoted my life.

Prop 71 was on the ballot long before Reeve's death, but no doubt folks are tacking that aspect on to the campaign. I believe the fact that Arnold's father-in-law has Alzheimer's has a larger impact on his support of the proposition.

Indeed, it was John Edwards who first exploited Reeve, claiming that if John Kerry was President, people like him would walk again.

One person's exploiter is another's visionary.  When Bush is re-elected he'll lead the parade that eases federal funding controls on stem cells.  Feel free to hold me accountable for my forecast two years from now.

There's a reason why the Pat Robertson's of the world don't mind casually undermining Bush in the last few weeks of the election.

Yes, and we can predict with similar likelihood that John Kerry would implement the draft, and would invade North Korea if elected.

After all, he'll need to work extra hard to dispel notions of liberal weakness!

They finally have cast the new Superman:

http://chud.com/news/240

I was hoping that Jim Caviezel would get the part. Oh well. Maybe there's an unwritten law that says you can't play both the Man of Steel and Jesus Christ, back to back no less.

Either way, somebody has got some mighty big shoes to fill, I think.

If they what they were really looking for was Superboy, they should have made the film an extension of Smallville or something. I expect to be disappointed now.
