Chris Reeve was a fellow alum of Williams College, and lived near Williamstown with his horses until he died. I saw him in town back when he could still walk, when he was involved in the college theater festivals every summer. Before his career as Superman, he had established himself as a stage actor, and he continued his love of theater long after he gained Hollywood fame.
Of course we all know how he comported himself after his accident. By an odd coincidence, my wife's high school boyfriend became a paraplegic after a mugging years later in New York City, and he ended up going on a speaking tour with Chis Reeve. She heard by e-mail about how inspirational and unpretentious Chris was. He sincerely believed that his fame gave him an opportunity to help others in need.
So, RIP Chris Reeve.

I saw Mr Reeve give a talk during a dinner function I was attending at the Rockefeller Center in NYC about 3 years ago. I could care less about Hollywood figures themselves - but the strength he displayed in dealing with this condition became an example for the rest of us - and elevated him to new levels of respect no acting career could attain.
Money and brains don't go hand in hand - and to make a long story short - in a room with some of NYC's wealthiest were some of the most assinine questions to Mr Reeve at the conclusion of his talk. I wanted to melt into the ground I was so humiliated by the "well to do" in the room. But Mr Reeve handled it - he did not get offended ("has your injury changed your relationship with your wife?") or angry ("what right do you have to talk about population control").
A gentleman in every sense of the word so far as I could see.
He has been a great spokesman for my community (Biotechnology) as well has a great example of one of the finer moments a human being can exhibit.

Prop 71 was on the ballot long before Reeve's death, but no doubt folks are tacking that aspect on to the campaign. I believe the fact that Arnold's father-in-law has Alzheimer's has a larger impact on his support of the proposition.
