Mount Everest Conqueror dies at 88

He could be best summed up by his quote when finishing the climb, "Awe, wonder, humility, pride, exaltation—these surely ought to be the confused emotions of the first men to stand on the highest peak on Earth, after so many others had failed," Hillary noted.

For some reason I thought he was way older and long deader.  Or a myth, like everything else from New Zealand.  I suck at history.

In the Christchurch museum the have an exhibition of the equipment Hillary's team used on their run to the South pole in the late 50s (I think).  Basically a converted tractor and a couple of woolly jumpers and some animal skins.  How the explorers of yore completed their amazing feats is a mystery to me.

This world lost a giant among men today.
Selfless, and humble.

He cared and gave more to the people of Nepal than anyone imaginable.

A true gentleman.

I saw that stuff when I was there. I concur with your thoughts.
