Probably only 4-5 hours in, not rushing much, and having a great time.  Truly enjoyable little game with a fun sense of humor.

This probably deserves a BiiF.  Still, it's easily worth $15.

Not very deep, but definitely a lot of fun.

Is this local co-op, or online?

You're right. It needs a BiiF. I never played Monkey Island.

Fun game, not as meaty as something like Torchlight or Fate but the humor, art and local co-op elevates it above those.  But the humor is very zany so it might not be for everyone.  The co-op is very fun, but I wish they'd give Sparkles some wardrobe options.

Local drop-in co-op. Not full on co-op mind you as whoever drops in is just support to DeathSpank, which has been described as "Girlfriend co-op".

Sparkles can be pretty deadly, at least in the early areas.  Also can be a horrible liability at times. awesome, for real

I was riding bitch when my wife was busy beating the game.  I caused her more deaths than she caused herself.  I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing though.

What's important is that you're man enough to admit that.

How's the action like? Tried the demo and I'm still equivocating. The dialogue and the style is cool, but I got bored of button smashing real quick (or I could be a real noob).

The only time I felt like I was button mashing was when I was using a crossbow (though I used that pretty often) since it can be fired pretty quickly. The rest of the time I was timing my blocking and countering with a weapon when I wasn't using my special move.

You can button mash through most of the game, but you'll run into difficulty spikes where you'll need to time blocks.  Also it's better to alternate your weapon attacks so that you can fill your judgement bar faster and use the specials.

Ah. I figured there had to be a point of having 4 weapons.

You also get combo Justice attacks which utilize two of your weapons at the same time.

I never found the combat very deep, but it didn't seem to matter much to me in the end.  It was appropriately challenging in spots at the middle difficulty.

I hit a rough spot where I died a few times in rapid succession and after the 3rd death, DeathSpank says something like "There's a lot of great things about blocking, but the best part is not dying!"  He had a point.

Initial writeup said it's 1.5 times the length of the original and funnier.  Same price, I'll buy it.  Had too much fun with the first.

First one is enjoyable, Menu Hero achievement was rather lol-worthy.

Bah, I was hoping for some DLC not a whole new game.

Considering how short the first game was and the format of it, I would hate if they just did DLC instead of another chapter in the story.

Well, DLC can mean episodic story additions.

How does this compare to, say, Castle Crashers?  Same vein of humorous beat-em-up action?  Appropriate for kids (note: I let mine play CC)?

Some of the jokes may go over their head, but it's the same style of cartoon violence. The gameplay is completely accessible for a kid.

They may struggle, depending on their age, with the adventure parts of it.  But there's always the fortune cookies that will spell out the solution to any quest.

That's what this is, basically.  It picks up right where the last left off.  If it's longer than the first, it'll be a great value, more than you'll get from any typical DLC.

Deathspank + chainsaw = Heart

HD Link

Note: at first ,seeing the additional weapons/monsters, I was kind of borderline. Then I thought long and hard about how awesome Deathspank would be with said weapons.

Arise!

The Baconing is coming at the end of August  awesome, for real

I love me some Deathspank. This one looks like it will continue what has been a good game with additions of the Leprechaun mafia, the most advanced computer from aeons ago aka the 1970s, and much more. Here's a video:
