I have NO idea if this game is any good; I never even looked at it until today although I do remember hearing about it at E3.

The many features of Risk Your Life include:
- Over 400 quests (or missions) for players to play through.
- Compelling battle system.
- Innovative skill system that allows players to define their character's class over time.
- Players can own virtual real estate within the game.
- Players can become feudal lords or leaders of clans or bands of warriors.
- Many thousands of players can play simultaneously.

Copy www.planetwidegames.com/patch/VersionInfo.dat into the folder where you installed Risk Your Life (c:\program files\Battlelands\RYLOnline). Be sure to overwrite the existing file.

IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, THE GAME WILL NOT RUN.

This game makes Lineage 2 look good... does that tell you anything?

How is the game as far as T&A? Anymore the only thing distinguishing MMORPGrinds is the level of distraction offered by checking out my female avatar jiggle in inappropriately unprotective outfits. Lineage 2 might not have been good at being a game, but so far it's the acme of distracting T&A.

Anything less than the copious panty flashes and the jiggling run animations of L2 is the genre marching backwards.

Well, this is the only screen shot I was able to find of anything remotely resembling female.  No jiggle there.

Maybe it's just that Bruce linked to the corporate site, but any game that puts corporate investment and careers on the page, and has a game site with less information on it than MUDs I've played just tells me to stay away.

Another danger signal:  the game is available on download.com.

That doesn't mean much. I remember a time when I'd go to download.com to find everything. I think it's just the fact that it's the product of another asian 'me too' company who wants to cash in on their inability to not play an MMOG. It's a crappy game with a crappier title. That's all that needs to be said.

Though I would like to know why the hell Bruce even posted about it.

Risk your Life Open Beta?

Is that like joining the Army on trial?

Having looked at the screenshots, which BTW contain copious amounts of fiery death particle animations and not much else, I'm trying to figure out just what is supposed to separate this game from any other game. Since there isn't even a goddamn FAQ link (I've now found it on the message boards), could someone tell me why I should waste the time to download, install and play this?

I got a beta invite to Irth Online the other day.  I have no memory of the game and can't remember signing up to test it... but I have a crappy memory, anyway, so I probably did.  This is probably the bit from the website that caught my eye:

Quote
Irth Online doesn’t limit players to choose a class: any race of character may learn any skill in the game, in any skill tree available. While some races will be significantly better at certain racially weighted skills than others and will have substantially better opportunities to learn racially weighted skills for their race and civilizations, players are not limited in their ability to learn and change their skillset.

Many forms of battle and fighting are offered our players: player vs. environment (fighting non-player characters, humanoid, monster and animal), player vs. player (players fighting each other), and civilization vs. civilization (large scale warfare and siege, both organized and unregimented.) Players may explore, travel or wage war on the ground, on the sea and in the air. Players may travel or combat on foot, on boat or by horseback – or by wings in the case of some non-human races.

I have a soft spot for games that allow you to fight from a boat.  Yar!

Anyway, if there is any interest...

Maybe I was drunk!  At least it's not as bad as waking up in a patch of poison ivy and seeing your knickers hanging off a tree branch 15 feet above you.  Not that it's ever happened to me.  Honest.

In ANY case... why didn't anyone warn me about Saga of Ryzom?  Eh?

Oh right... everyone did.  :(

I cancelled it today.  It has the strangest bug I've ever encountered.  It seems that  when you train in n00bville, you may get stuck in that room.  If you relog to resolve it, as suggested, you may end up in a totally different area of the game.  The GMs (who are extremely responsive) can and will relocate you.  Unfortunately, they say they are unable to return you to the n00bie area.  The mainland is very, very difficult and most people don't even leave until they are level 30 or more.  This, along with the lag, rubberbanding, Linksys incompatibilities, constant "please wait" messages, not being able to 'return to character selection'... I've given up.  It is unplayable for me.

I will miss my pirate hat, however.

Awww. :( Sorry to see you leave Ryzom, Signe. They fixed the rubberbanding with a patch yesterday and the Linksys problems were resolved quite a few months back in beta, at least for my Linksys router they were. It sucks to hear that you were still having problems with it. Ah well. Can I have your stuff? ;)

I did check the game before I cancelled and I was still having rubberband problems.  I'll check it out when it's baked a bit longer.  Righ, even on his laptop, doesn't seem to have the amount of difficulity I have.  As you said... oh well.

And yes, you can have my q20 sword and armour and my 167 dappers.  I have a couple of low quality animal innards, too. :)

Unfortunately, the pirate hat seems to be stuck on my head.

I posted it because they email-spammed me so I thought I would spam everyone else.

Oh, and since WoW Beta got its own thread, I thought I might as well start a thread for RYL.

Also, some people enjoy trying out sucky stuff for free, even if it sucks.
