Another unfortunate gaming story.A Chinese teenager who was so wrapped up in playing WoW decided to take revenge on a classmate by setting him on fire.
According to the story on the Beijing news, the teenager thought he was a Fire Mage and filled a water bottle with fuel and doused the victim in fuel before setting him alight.
The victim received burns to 55% of his body, including third-degree burns on 38% of his body. The teenager has subsequently received a jail sentence of 8 years and his accomplice received 7 years. Both families of the perpetrators have also been ordered to pay 760,000 RM to the victim's family.
This is one crazy world we live in and these tragic stories highlight the fact that younger players should be monitored by parents who are liekly to intervene when their child shows signs of losing grip on reality. Source ( Original in Chinese) Thats some crazy crap right there. |

It's not the first time something violent and seemingly MMO related has happened in China. I'm willing to bet that the guy who was set on fire ninja'd something in a raid or whatever. IIRC, China is also home to the "guy stabs another guy to death in RL for stealing a virtual sword" incident.

I'm with CmdrSlack's theory - it was probably revenge for some in-game sleight by a kid whose WoW binging allowed him to totally lose perspective.
Tricky thing about China is there's millions more MMOG players over there than here. The freak:normy ratio might be the same and they'll still come out ahead.
