Saw this promo advertised here in Aus over the weekend. As part of a Christmas promotion, if you buy a 1080p Sony LCD Tv, they'll throw in a free PS3. Marketing genius or sign of desperation? Not sure frankly - if I wanted to spend $3K on a TV I'd definately be getting one of these.
I just spent 3k on a TV this week. I went for the Samsung, since I got a top-quality 46" for my 3k as opposed to 40" from Sony. I also get a free 19" LCD, but meh.
These sort of deals pop up every once in a while in the U.S. at places like Best Buy and Circuit City. For all intents and purposes, it's not much different than the numerous TV's in the weekly ads that advertise discounts of a few hundred dollars off.
The main deals here at the moment (free 19" lcd for samsung, free 26"? lcd with philips, free surround sound system and a night in a hotel with lg, free ps3 with sony) are from the manufacturers via redemption, not with the retailers. This means if you shop smart, you can still get the retailers to knock several hundred dollars off your tv (as I did), since the bonus items aren't their problem/cost.
Why am I homeless? Why do all you motherfuckers need homes is the real question. They called it The Prayer, its answer was law Mommy come back 'cause the water's all gone
Yeah. It's "buying a HDTV? Well we'll throw in this here Playstation 3/High-Def blu-ray player!" Which is a smart move.
Honestly, if I had a choice between the freebie LCD TV I got or a PS3, I'd go the PS3 as well. But the Sony TV in 46" cost well more than the Sammy which was better value for me since the screens are pretty much the same.
