Because telling people wtf is going on is apparently just too fucking hard, Weatherlight release announcement has been buried in the forums somewhere.

Anyway, release tomorrow, events from Friday.






Weatherlight Release Events
Magic Online

Note: Due to load and stability issues, we are not going to run championships for the Weatherlight Release events. Instead, we will give away Online sets to the winners of the 2x and 4x events. See the event information below for more details.

On Wednesday, December 12th at 9:00am PST, Weatherlight goes on sale in the Magic Online store.

NOTE: Weatherlight becomes legal in ALL Constructed formats the day it goes on sale (December 12). All casual rooms, Premier Events, and constructed queues will use Weatherlight starting on December 12.

Weatherlight Release events begin Friday, December 14 and will have 4 components:

Release Leagues
Draft Queues
Premier Event “No Top 8” Flights
Premier Event Flights (2x and 4x Prizes)

Weatherlight Release Leagues

SIGNUP: December 14, 9:00am – December 21, 12:00pm (the final 1 week, 2x league will start no later than 12:00pm on December 21). Release Leagues will have a maximum of 256 players each and will auto-spawn (as soon as a league reaches 256 players, another will begin registration).

LEAGUE DURATION: 1 week

PRODUCT: 1 Mirage Tournament Pack and 3 Weatherlight Booster Packs.

ADMISSION: 2 Tix, Product

PRIZE SUPPORT: 2x prizes, Participation Avatar: Peacekeeper; Records of 5-0 get Prize Avatar: Morinfen.

Avatars will be distributed Approx. 3 weeks after the last league concludes

NOTE: The regularly schedule downtime will still take place on Wednesday, December 12 at 8:00 am PST. Plan your league games accordingly as no compensation will be issued if you lose a game due to the servers going down for maintenance.

Weatherlight Draft Queues

QUEUES BEGIN: `FORMATS: Booster Draft

PRODUCT: 1 Mirage Booster, 1 Visions Booster, 1 Weatherlight Booster or 3 Weatherlight Boosters.

ADMISSION: 2 Tix, Product

PRIZE SUPPORT: 4-3-2-2

NOTE: The regularly schedule downtime will still take place on Wednesday, December 12 at 8:00 am PST. Queues will be down during the downtime.


Weatherlight “No Top 8” Premier Events

DURATION: December 14, 2:00 pm – December 21 12:00 pm (last starts at 12:00 pm). “No Top 8” Flights will have 32 players per flight and will start every ½ hour or 1 hour (depending on demand). Each flight will have a minimum of 24 players, maximum of 32 players. Each flight will be 5 rounds.

PRODUCT: 1 Mirage Tournament Pack and 3 Weatherlight Booster Packs.

ADMISSION: 2 Tix, Product

PRIZE SUPPORT: As there is no top 8, prizes are based on total match points at the end of the tournament. Each match win awards 3 points, each draw awards 1 point, and each loss awards 0 points.

All who participate in a “No Top 8” Premier Event Flight will receive the Peacekeeper avatar. Players with 12 or more match points and the end of the tournament will receive the Morinfen avatar.

NOTE: The regularly schedule downtime will still take place on Wednesday, December 12 at 8:00 am PST. There will be no Premier Events starting from 10:00 pm on December 11 through 10:00 am on December 12.


Weatherlight Premier Events (2x Flights)

DURATION: December 14, 2:00 pm – December 21 8:00 am (last starts at 8:00 am). 2x Flights will start every 6 hours. Each flight will have a minimum of 24 players, maximum of 128 players.

PRODUCT: 1 Mirage Tournament Pack and 3 Weatherlight Booster Packs, top 8 booster draft. The booster draft format will be 1 Mirage Booster, 1 Visions Booster, and 1 Weatherlight Booster.

ADMISSION: 2 Tix, Product

PRIZE SUPPORT: 2x Prizes, Top 8

DURATION: December 14, 1:15 pm – December 21, 1:15 pm (last starts at 1:15 pm). 4x Flights start every 8 hours (on the quarter hour). Each flight will have a minimum of 24 players, maximum of 192 players.

PRODUCT: 1 Mirage Tournament Pack and 3 Weatherlight Booster Packs, top 8 booster draft. The booster draft format will be 1 Mirage Booster, 1 Visions Booster, and 1 Weatherlight Booster.

ADMISSION: 4 Tix, Product

PRIZE SUPPORT: 4x Prizes, Manual Pay to Top 16 (Prizes for 9-16 place will be paid out within 72 hours of event completion)

Weatherlight was one of my favorite packs outside of the fact it was loaded with mediocre cards to balance out the awesome ones (Mobius Strip is my overall favorite).
