In this adventure game directed by Goichi Suda (of Killer 7 fame), you play as Travis Touchdown, a normal guy (with an otaku geek streak to him) who wins a Beam Katana through an online auction and uses the weapon to start a new career as a professional killer. One day, an assassin named Helter Skelter appears before Travis and the two face off in a battle. Travis emerges victorious and finds himself in the presence of Silvia Christel, a mysterious French woman who claims to be an agent with the UAA. Silvia gives Travis official rank of 11 in the organization. Now, it's up to you to become #1.

No More Heroes takes place in the city of Santa Destroy, and you are free to explore the town to your liking, taking on missions large and small to collect money and purchase new weapons as you work up towards the 10 main killing contracts. Gameplay is all about using your Beam Katana (via Wii remote) to defeat enemies.

The cat icon is the combat stance.

I'd say I froth for this game, but I expect it to control for dick (like all of Suda51's games). Doubly so because of the wiimote.

Have you seen a Wii on display at a local outlet?

Sounds like a thoroughly oddball game to me.  Thus, it has the potential to be either awesome, for real or ACK! depending on the implementation.  I can't say I've taken my lightsaber fantasies as far as conceptualizing killing people, let alone trying to make a Wii game about it.

I'm not inspired by that big pixelated wind-up dial thing. That to me seems like an old-golf "press for pressure/torque" element. This is not the game we've been waiting for if the katana doesn't swing in exact sync with the wiimote (ie. how you swing is determine for you or decided in advance, you just control how powerful the swing is).

Heck, I'm still not convinced the wiimote is even capable of that level of resolution. But at least we know now that if it isn't, it's not an fail either.

I'm cautiously optimistic about No More Heroes. I'd be more enthused, but you know... Killer 7.

A lot of us have wanted a lightsaber game with the wiimote. I'll buy this for my nephew who has a Wii and use him as an excuse to play.

I'd love a lightsaber game, but the Killer 7 connection makes me scared.

I actually missed the line about K7 in the OP, it was the graphic style on that screenshot that made me think of it...

Sadly, No More Heroes has tanked with its launch in Japan, selling only 13,000 last week and not even making it into the top 30.  Sadly I think it's still one of Suda51's best selling games.

Suda51 makes games for the NA market so he is probably not discouraged too much.  Of course, it might suck anyway.

4 things worked against this in Japan.

1. Wii.
2. Third party.
3. Not for non-gamers.
4. Suda51.

Yes, he makes games for western audiences,  but generally gains some notability in Japan. This got... none. The lead character is based on Johnny Knoxville and serves no purpose for Japanese Wii owners. Nor most American ones. This should've been a 360/PS3 title from the start. I would be shocked if Grasshopper could afford such a thing though (unfortunately).

Having it on the PS2 would've done fucking WONDERS for the sellthrough of this beast.

For all the reasons you give, I'm hoping the Wiimote saber action is good.  Otherwise this is a waste.  Also, by "good" I mean "the saber swings like I swing my Wiimote".

Before the Wii came out, this game was the reason I was buying it.

Not kidding.

It is my killer app.

Now, IS IT a killer app?

Don't know yet.

It sure is out there though.

out there seems a bit more of a "Killer 7" kind of description than a "Awesome LightSaber fighting with my Wiimote".

First of all, this isn't a light saber game.

The Wiimote goes practically unused. Odds are this'll see a PS2 release.

In fact, the Wii-Mote usage probably fits with the minimal requirements Nintendo set forth.

There's a reason it doesn't suck.

It flows more like Samurai Champloo than Killer 7, or at least the combat does.

I like out there. I'm not expecting a light saber game, I'm expecting a wacky fucked up game the likes of which I don't often experience.
