I actually hope every single person on earth buys one. And it becomes the absolute bane of gamestop trade-ins. My local Gamestops already get more Wiis than PS3s (but not more than 360s).

I can't help but think that news article was accidentally posted a year too late.  I bought my Wii around mid-year somewhere in the $150-$250 range.  Yet, a little research on online retailers and eBay shows that it is indeed selling for $500.

So why are people buying a Wii for $600 when the entire reason to get one is that it's cheap so you can ignore the distinct lack of good titles.

You may as well just get a 360 Elite or a PS3 then. Particularly a 360 if lots of games are your thing, since it has the best library between the 3. People have no taste in anything anymore.

This is what we geniuses call a "faulty premise."

The thing is, it has great titles.... if you haven't played a video game since the 80's. The Pac-man generation are all in a tizzy about the damn thing because the games are accessible to them. I was chatting with my co-workers last night about games system. A couple talked about how their kids were tired of the Wii, but how much they loved the thing. The Wii is baby boomer crack. Plus, they actually buy a fair amount of games because they don't know the games they are playing suck, because generally the Wii games are a whole lot more exciting than Yars Revenge and Defender.

So, it's Nintendo's Home System Swan Song?

I was right in calling it the Fisher Price My First Console like 2 years ago then. The Wii is going to train parents how to play real games.

If I look at it in that light, I'm almost ok with the existence of the thing.

Hell, given sales figures, if his store doesn't have like four or five times as many seconhand Wiis as PS3s then that's probably a bad sign for Sony.

Ha! Swan song. That's funny. It'll make money hand over fist. It's just not for you.

“Clearly, consumers place a higher value on accessible, fun games such as Wii Sports or Carnival than on high-definition graphics and leading-edge processing power,” says Lazard Capital analyst Colin Sebastian.

The article is misleading. People aren't paying $600 for a Wii, they are paying $600 for a Wii and an extra controller and a game or two. Whereas with a PS3 or a 360, they might get a game on top of their console purcahse. And the entire reason to get a Wii is to play fun games. The fact that it isn't $500 retail just helps that.

The 360 has the best library among all 3, unless of course you happen to NOT be a dedicated video gamer who has been religiously playing games for the last 10 years. At which point, Wii Sports is the awesome and you could give two shits about Halo 3, Gears of War, or any of the other big 360 titles from this year.

Why is it so hard to accept the success of something that isn't for you?

Hm. Disgaea still in the top 30. Admirable.

Also, breakdown.

Top 10:
2 Wii
3 PS2
1 360
3 DS

Things are slowly normalizing.

I'm impressed with the Mega Man Star Force 2 Showing since Star Force 1 was horrible. Also, seeing Galaxy knocked out of the top 10 is nice, and RE Umbrella Chronicles tanked for a Capcom Game.

Nice to see a Pachinko title list. Why? Because it's a fucking traditional japanese past time.

Very very nice to see that Layton 2 bumped Layton 1 sales back up.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon charting is good as well, I'd like to see the other one come over here. Chunsoft is good people.

Galaxy has had suprisingly poor sales numbers in Japan since it launched.

In America it will rape face.
