Some of you people, I'm sure, will eat this shit up. More online mystery shit like The Better Bard and I Love Bees.

I will admit, some of the pictures used for this little campaign are very pretty. But in terms of the PSP and the DS being vapor in terms of technical specification and goodies, I just can't bring myself to give a shit. That and Nintendo continually says, the DS does not compete with the SP, it is a seperate line (much like the Virtual Boy and the Game Boy, eh?) That seems as silly as Sony saying that EQ2 will not compete with EQ1.

My god...the Nintendo people are the masters of stringing along fanboys.

Naturally, I am eating this shit up right now.

Whenever Nintendo releases something non-orthodox (particularly in between consoles), I can't help but think about these two guys:

The saddest part is that I'll probably be loving every moment with the thing, no matter if it really is worth it.  They are the magicians of the console world, and we their marks.

Holy speculation from a few pictures and obscure forum posts, batman. Nintendo fans seem like Apple fans imo.

Wasn't Nintendo the one who said online gaming is essentially a fad and not a part of their long-term strategy?

The best part of SWG was the easy account cancellation process.

Well, the GC is the only recent console with no 'net access.

The GCN has access, but it may as well be Sega.net.  Nintendo barely ackknowledges it's existance.

It's sad, since the GCN is actually some pretty neat hardware. Aside from Metroid and the Sega titles, though, there's in practically nothing to recomend the GCN except the usual Mario-esqe kiddie-crap Nintendo seems to think people want. Hell, as a kid I hated this stuff. As an adult, there are no words to express my contempt for it.

Nintendo has intentionally marginalized itself in this market by sticking to licenses with little general appeal while both Sony and MS are leeching away their market. I doubt they can even pull a successful Sega and leave the hardware side for strictly software development.

Resident Evil, and especially Eternal Darkness. But yeah.

Eternal Darkness alone almost got me to buy the console.  I decided against it as it was the only cube game I'd be likely to buy though.

Heh, Windwaker was quite the game.  Sure the cell shaded graphics aren't everyone's cup o' tea, but they were well done and made the game one of the most uniquely beautiful offerings on the market today.

I've also heard nothing but raves about the pikmin series.  Mario Sunshine wasn't a great game, but it was decent and had some good old school Mario action.  Super Smash Brother's Melee is one of the coolest fighters I've every played (and some of the best multiplayer action around). Etc etc etc...

Most Nintendo offerings are aimed at the juvenile audience, however, most tend to end up being very well done, fun games.  It's like the Harry Potter books, they aren't legendary lit or particularly gritty, but they excel at what they put out to accomplish: entertaining their audience.

Now all I want out of Nintendo is another Eternal Darkness game before the console goes under. Because while they're putting out fun, unique games, I just think they're going to lose today's youngster that cut his gaming teeth on Grand Theft Auto.

I do not give one-fucking-iota of a care whether or not they continue designing their games for all ages(read: "kiddie" to stupid-shit knuckle draggers who seem to think violence, sex, and ambiguous storylines somehow make a game "mature" and "better") as long as they remember that it's okay to try new things.  Seeing as Hiroshi Yamauchi is no longer the controlling interest at Nintendo and has presumably gone back to his vigorous lifestyle of lumbering down hallways and lusting for human flesh, I think it's quite likely the somewhat-recent hesitation Nintendo had for online play might dwindle and we could see something significant come to fruition with " Nintendo revolution".  After all, Nintendo has had online gaming for pretty much each console they've had, even the NES, and perhaps enough time after the 64DD disaster has passed for them to start anew with seriousness at the possibilites of networked gaming.

But then again, what would I know?  I'm just a frothing Nintendo fanboy.

Well, the DS at least will have WiFi - let's  see if game makers can use it for something. With Microsoft and to a lesser degree Sony focusing on internet console gaming, Nintendo might be looking at a non-Internet-enabled console as a possible franchise... :P

$ set rant mode on

The problem is, the PS2 gets all the original games. Think Ico, Frequency/Amplitude, Rez (also DC), Mojib Ribbon, Katamari Damacy, Dark Chronicle... GCN got Viewtiful Joe, but that too ended up (in an enhanced version no less) on the PS2.

All Nintendo has left is a bunch of franchises the fanboys lap up. I am getting tired of the company; I will probably sell my Gamecube, it sits there collecting dust while I play Burnout 3 on the PS2. Paper Mario 2 beckons, but I realize if I buy that, then I am justifying Nintendos evil franchise laziness. I should buy Wanda and the Colossus - sequel to ICO - for the PS2 instead.

So as I glance at Beach Spikers and Legends of Wrestling II and remember back when the 'Cube had third party support, I wonder what will happen to their "Revolution" when - or if - it ever comes. Will it be a new stinking MarioZone? Or will it be something good?

It's gotten so bad I am even considering not buying a DS.

Im still running an original GBA, so I kind of need the DS to keep up.  I understand it is backlit right?  I mean, they wouldn't be stupid enough to make yet another portable without backlighting.   I am pretty happy with my Gamecube, but if it was my only console system, I would be kinda pissed.  Online doesn't matter since I have a computer and do my online gaming with that.
