How often do we get an MMOG exec who will be missed? Good luck to him if it's true.

It's okay.  He makes me laugh sometimes and I enjoy reading his blog.  Maybe he'll poke around in other bits of the board now.  I wonder what he's wearing?

He's leaving a successful game and it does not sound like he's being forced out, so he's most likely wearing a money hat right now...

NCSoft should hire him to turn CoX around.

Fuck no, I don't want Hartsman wasting his goddamn time on leftovers like CoH.

Why would you want that. It's a waste of talent.

Any confirmation other then the eq2flames guy whose motives don't seem to be entirely altruistic.

The guy has a lot of talent.  Regardles of the situation, I hope that he finds a project that helps him continue to express his ability.

Yeah so did that say the new guy in charge was one of the people responsible for making EQ2 at launch such a terrible game?  EQ2 only got good after they ripped out all the suck that it had like no offline auction house, spirit shards, group death penalty etc, etc.

I'm worried about that too, although I think (hope)  the departed Dymus, lead designer, had more to do with "the suck" then the producer.

Very, very interesting.  Hartsman is probably my favorite dev- he is not a "rockstar", but damned if he does not do some great work.

He will do very well no matter where he ends up.  Good luck to you, sir!

No Nerf, but I put a link to this very thread and I said that you all can guarantee for my purity. I even mentioned your case, and see if they can take a look at your lawn from a Michigan perspective.

I was trying to remember Gallenite's dev character from EQ1 (an Erudite I think) and tried some creative googling: everquest gallenite event -"everquest 2" -"everquest II" -eq2

And up came: Gallenite performs Karaoke at the 2006 SOE Fan Faire in Atlanta

Hahaha -- I hope you enjoyed that. :)

Yes, it was my Erudite.

Re: a couple messages ago

Dymus (lead designer for expansions 2 and 3) was actually a critical partner in crime in the steady stream of improvements in EQ2.  If you played through the latest version of Fallengate, that was all his (both concept and implementation), to give an example of his style.

Turning an existing project of that size around is a herculean effort - Big projects turn about as quickly as big ships.  It takes a lot of effort from a lot of people to overcome that kind of inertia.  It's not even something that happened in a single dev cycle, but over a number of them.

A lot of what people have termed the "early suck" was less about any individual person doing a bad job between 2000 and 2004, and more an overall goals issue.  Even in what was there, there were a lot of good individual bits of work done by a lot of very smart people.  Important parts of said work just weren't the ideal ways to make the best product possible that carried the EQ name.
