Too bad the independent MOG Magazine couldn't survive past the first issue because they couldn't find a publisher.  I think it had real potential.  The SOE thing will be nothing more than a corporate mouthpiece.

I was on the advisor staff of MOG (was drawn in from the DAoC strategy guide.) It was a good magazine. Still have my copy with my name in it. The staff at IMGS were awesome. They were all friendly and knew what they wanted to get out of that mag. As for sony's.. a hearty BLEH.

One more piece in the "expand SOE as a brand with multiple titles in it" plan. A very good idea, from a marketing perspective, which means nothing once you actually play any of the games.

My band had a theory on songwriting. We'd write a dozen songs and gel them down into one or two songs, taking the best ideas and trimming off the crap. SOE should do that with their mmogs imo.

You assume there's one good MMOG in there worth saving.

Getting your customers to pay for your advertising is rather clever.

That's nothing new.  Half the T-shirts ever made are advertisements that people pay to wear.

No, I assume that an amalgamation could approach a damned fine game. SWG + PS, take the strengths of each and ditch the crap.

Yeah, I never really understood that.

Considering that SOE considers things like the timesinks of EQ to be a plus, I don't think an amalgamation of SWG + PS would be anything but the shitty bits.

Finally, a definitive forum for the WoW versus EQ2 debate.

Since SOE sells shitty games and makes money on them, perhaps a game with concentrated, distilled shittiness would sell even better.  They could change their name to Sony Online Excrement and get stinking rich.

I'm not looking for much in the way of great new games from SOE myself.  On the other hand, I am tempted to buy Sony stock, because they do know how to make money.

Scenario:

You're sitting in a dentist's office waiting room. Sitting in front of you is a copy of People with Jude Law on the cover, and a copy of SOE Worlds.

Which do you read?

Um, never mind.

Seeing as how I am addicted to reading about the trainwreck that is Britney Spears, I have to go with People. Now before you say that the People is about Jude Law, I shouldn't have to remind you that Britney does at least one stupid thing a week that ends up in People. I am a pop culture junkie and I need my fix, damnit.

If only Britney played EQ, they could do a story cover on her Beastlord character and you can die happy.

Um, never mind.

I know Curt Schilling played EQ when he was in Arizona, not sure if he still has time for it in Boston.

After the Yankees take care of the Red Sox in the playoffs, Schilling will have a lot of free time for EQ.

Um, never mind.

Here's a link to a Curt Schilling gamer story for anyone who cares.

Quote from: Boston.com
You might say of newly acquired Boston Red Sock Curt "The Hope" Schilling that he's got games. One of the games he excels at is baseball. Another happens to be EverQuest, a deep-dish, spooky-wooky online role-playing adventure fantasy marketed by Sony.
...
Later, Allakhazam offered Schilling the chance to tell his side of the story. "C'mon dude, you ever hear of a cleric pulling in a group with a paladin?" Schilling answered.

The best part of SWG was the easy account cancellation process.

Well, if you consider that all Joe Average knows about EQ is that it's one of them online computer things, and there's all these stories about how kids kill themselves over it.  It's gotta involve Satan worship or something, right?

That's pretty spooky.

Ah yes, another example of "the normals" who feel ever so superior making fun of us spooky-wooky gamers.

You can tell most people you were in prison for fifteen years for sodomizing goats and they'll just shrug and say, "Oh well, live and learn." But tell them you play D&D and they practically want to have you committed to an insane asylum.

Um, never mind.
