They will be spending all week just fixing the bugs released with 2.3, add in a holiday and the knowledge that s3 will have at least 3-4 days of hell for them makes good sense to delay another week.

Well, I don't know, I think the problem with 2.3 was not enough testers on the PTR (always seems to be that), and I'm not sure that letting it sit on the PTR over Thanksgiving would have resulted in any more bugfixing. Then they would have spent 2-3 weeks bug fixing 2.3, and then Christmas and New Year would have interfered with getting S3 out.
