Remo Williams, the Adventure Continues

After years and years, I finally remembered to look for this damn movie. "Remo Williams, the Adventure Continues". Yes, it DOES exist! Not the same cast apparently, but it is there. I can now force all the many many people who insist that it was all a figment of my imagination to eat their words. I am putting it here to commemorate the event, and to maybe get a link on Google so other wayward souls who are desperately seeking info on this movie will find it.

Apparently, it was a TV pilot, and was shown on TV exactly one time. Somehow I managed to be in front of the tv when it was on. I did some more quick looking to see if I could find a place to buy it, but no luck. I remember mainly through fragments of 3 scene's: One where Chuin exits the roof of a building by sliding down the stream of water produced by a fire hose while Remo jumps the 10 or so stories; Chuin teaching an assassin how to hide emotion, which leads to Remo being killed since he cannot sense the evil intent; and Chuin reviving the dead-ish Remo with a Myiagi (Karate Kid) -type hand-rubbing-thing.

The sources I found on the 'net indicate the cast is different, but I cannot seem to dispel the strong feeling that I saw Fred and Joel in that damn movie. Either I am right and they did a direct-to-vhs movie (starring Fred and Joel) AND there was a tv pilot, or I will have to see the show so my brain will accept that I mis-remembered the cast.

Good times. Way abused soundtrack though. The stuff on the scaffolded Statue of Liberty was cool. I tried running on concrete like Remo. Doesn't work so well without training 

Glad the TV series didn't take. I always hate when TV shows didn't use any of the movie cast.

It's based on a series of pulp fiction style books, with a very heavy helping of political and social satire and commentary, called The Destroyer by Richard Sapir and Warren Murphy.  The first issue was in the early seventies, I want to say '72.  The Destroyer is still in publication with new volumes released a few times a year, I still see one or two at Barnes & Noble in the Fiction section.  The original writers moved on long ago and for a while the books were written by alternating series of hack ghost writers.  I think in the ~120's they finally settled on a permanent replacement ghost writer.  The last one I read was in the 140's and was good even though it didn't have the feel of the originals but was MILES better than the hack stuff in the transition period.

The issues from 1 through about 90 are pure pulp gold though, if you can find 'em I highly recommend them, quite a bit of the social and political satire is still relevant.

I often name my alt-MMO characters off obscure characters from the novels.

The original movie theme song rocks! I found it, um, in a legitimate store for purchase!, and downlo... um, bought it. I am tempted to convert it to wave format and set it as my Windows start-up music.

Gee, that's swell.  I hope it catches on well enough that we get three or four good doses of classic cheese out of it.
