They now have the 80gb version with Motorstorm packed in for $499. Literally sitting next to the 60gb for the same price.

I also got a coupon to send in for 5 free Blu-ray movies.

With it I got: an HDMI connector, another controller, a usb charge cord, a Ps2 memory card converter and Folklore. I plan to get Resistance soon, maybe this month, maybe November. Seeing the 80gb at $499 was my breaking point.

That's a pretty good pack.  I'd pass on Resistance and get Ratchet & Clank, but YMMV.

I'm usually into the more "Mature" games. Or perhaps I should say more serious. I generally don't go for comedy in my games.

Ratchet & Clank is not about comedy. It's about Pew Pew.

I think even Insomniac would tell you to get R&C.

To be serious though, the one thing that Insomniac has as their trademark is weapon design, and you're going to find them playing more to that strength with R&C than Resistance (though the weapons are cool there too); plus, there will be more gameplay diversity there than just a straight up shooter; for what it's worth, it's a better technology demo (same engine, just better).

There is plenty of comedy in R&C, but the cartoony style probably makes people think it's not really about blowing up shit.  It's really all about using huge, insane weapons to blow up tons of shit.  There's plenty of platforming, swinging from grapples, some gliding/flying/tanks, but it's all about exploding things.  The weapons are as big of a star as Ratchet or Clank.  The vehicles are pretty good, too, but not quite as good as the general run-and-gun.  But it is funny and goofy, no doubt.  Robot zombies?  The whole Captain Quark arc?  Funny layered on top of solid gameplay.

Resistance was Insomniac's PS3 testbed.  I expect great things from R&CF.

Well, I also enjoy storylines in games, even FPS. Sooo....it looks like these games will have to do me for now. Does R&C have co-op?

Co-op seems unlikely.  Deadlocked had it, but not in the main game (IIRC).  There could be co-op multiplayer maps but the main game won't be, I'm sure.

If you can wait until Nov 20 or so, I'll send you my copy of Resistance. I've gotten all the fun out of it I can, as I totally suck at the game.

80gb version is sans BC, yes?

I hate that I will eventually need a PS3 if Persona 4 turns out to be awesome. I'll hate it more if it can't play my old games.

80GB BC is partly hardware and partly software.  It supports less games than the 20/60GB, but better than nothing.

Get a good TV if you don't have one. I got a new Bravia and holy shit Ratchet and Clank, Folklore, and Resistance look great. Download tons of demos, goof with the rather neat remote play feature if you got a PSP, run Folding At Home for the hell of it.

It seems to have gotten very "meh" reviews.  Defiantly sounds like a style over substance kinda game.

The camera and targeting system kinda suck. It is however enormously pretty. Six-Axis sucks though.

It's the least invasive six-axis however. Substance wise it's a murder-mystery-catch-em-all.

Just for shits and giggles I figured I'd do a sort of mini-review: PS3 vs XBOX 360 now that I finally own both of them.

Games:
For quantity and I'd argue quality I think it's no question that the 360 is currently the winner.

Interface:
This is probably a personal preference but I don't want the PSP interface for my gaming console. It's not as intuitive as the 360 interface. I'm giving this point to the 360 right now.

Graphics:
Folklore looks nice. So far I haven't seen a clear advantage to either system and don't expect to for a year or more. If Devs take advantage of the PS3 I think it'll have the edge here eventually.

Sound:
A tie as near as I can tell, though I did notice the PS3 supports DTS which I prefer over Dolby. I need to check whether or not the XBOX does before I can judge. Right now I'll give a slight edge to the PS3.

Construction:
PS3 wins easily. It seems to be more stable and also has built in wireless and HDMI.

Controllers:
I'm not sure I like the Sixaxis stuff. It feels...gimmicky right now OTOH they already have rechargeable batteries and I only need a USB cable to charge them. I'm going to call this one a tie also.

So, a tie with the PS3 probably taking the lead in a year or two when their library looks better and the graphics mature.

Oh, and I didn't get Resistance. I got Virtua Fighter and a cheap copy of Dark Kingdom. The last because my girlfriend and daughter both love the Baldur's Gate/Champions of Norrath style of "action RPG". I am hoping to get Heavenly Sword and maybe Resistance soon but it'll probably be January since we're coming up on Christmas time.

PS3 has 7.1 Dolby TrueHD, Dolby, DTS, SACD, and has better codec/playback support (i think the 360 is DTS and Dolby)... It's not really a slight edge.

True Stray.

So, my games are:

Motorstorm: More fun than I thought it'd be but I don't think it'll last long
Virtua Fighter 5: Fun but I hate that movement appears tied to the thumb pad and not the stick. WTF?
Folklore: Interesting. It's very creative and unique but it feels like it has something missing so far.
Dark Kingdom: I'm fully expecting this one to suck but as I said before I got it for my girlfriend and daughter.

Motorstorm is fun, but I think the idea will be better served in a sequel.

Graphics wise, you might want to download the R&C and Heavenly Sword demos to see the hardware being taken advantage of (for the time being....). Although Motorstorm is pretty too.

Possibly but then again, an analog stick is the closest to a joystick I have right now. At least let me change it in the options. The thumb pad starts hurting my thumb in a fighting game because I push a bit hard when I get excited.

Yeah, pretty much. I realize now that I have a PS3 that with most multi-system games I'll probably have to wait for reviews to see which system it is better on. Which sucks because I like the preorder perks.

I didn't know people played vs fighters with analog sticks.  I don't even like the solid-disk type d-pads for fighting games.

On cross-platform games, I have to consider that the 360 version is going to have Achievements.  I love me some Achievements.  The 360 is a piece of junk but XBL is awesome, while the PS3 is like a Cadillac but PSN is balls.

Should I have said thumbstick?  You know what I mean.  The nub on your Sixaxis.  Arcade joystick is a different matter.

Analog Stick and Thumbstick are the same thing.

D-Pad is D-pad. or Control Pad.

True. I mostly got the PS3 for the RPGs that will come and Metal Gear. I'm still torn over Assassin's Creed. It looks awesome but I have a sneaky suspicion it'll play like ass.

Time to rewrite?

I did not know people used the thumbstick to play fighting games.  I woudn't, and I don't even like to use the disk-style D-pad.  I prefer the four-button D-pad found on the PS controllers.  These comments don't have anything to do with an arcade joystick because that's a completely different animal.  I would not like using a D-pad on an arcade machine.

Okay, I'll mentally put Reisitance in a bucket for you. Just try to drop me a note at some point.

Dark Kingdom was fun for a bit, but got tedious pretty quickly. Seemed like the control of the toon wasn't enough for the enemies attacking. Or perhaps I just sucked on that game too.

I like D-Pads! Though not the PS2 or SixAxis really...but it's functional.

On the 360 however, it's imperative to get a stick. That is literally the worst D-pad ever.
