Looks like a new Dungeons and Dragons game was released today. Any one heard much about it?
I know the story was done by R.A. Salvatore, and there will be a camio by Drizzt. Maybe a rental? If there is good coop maybe I will buy it.

Anyone bought, or plan on buying?

Thrilling pick-up-and-play combat: hand-to-hand battles and melee brawls (the fighter), ranged and projectile power (the sorcerer), sexy stealth attacks (the rogue)

Hahaha.

And this gem from their forums...

i nearly jizzed myself when i watched the recent gamespot developer interview and saw that YOU CAN PLAY AS DRIZZT for a periuod of time in the game....how COOL is THAT!?

if you watch the video ytoua ctually see it in action!!! i've always wanted to see/make this kind of game and now that it's coming out i feel almost overwhelmed with glee but at the same time so eager to get in on it, almost jealous that someone gets to make it before me!!! hahaha, later..

*EDIT* Seems the PS2 version is out, the Xbox and PC version are releasing in November. Honestly, I cant think you would want this one PC, seems a perfict game for a controller. But then I guess if you ahve a gamepad..

I was curious about it for a bit, having enjoyed the co-op modes on similar games w/ a bud of mine.

But then I found out that a game that lets you play a party of 3 doesn't let you play co-op.

Sigh..

Thanks to my midwestern roots, I still use "brung" and "swum" sometimes.

swim -> swam -> swum
bring -> brang -> brung

I grew up in the midwest and was taught

Bring --> brought --> have brought.

Of course they also taught me "ja sure, you betcha and hotdish"

I feel cheated.

Is a hotdish what you server a Hot Carl on?

Jesus, could we have got any farther off topic?

The game was featured in Play magazine a month or so ago. (August Issue)  From the article I read there, it seemed like gameplay was going to be like the Lord of the Rings games, but with D&D skins.  Quick summation of the review

* Linear story, not open-ended GTA-style (good in their opinion)
* Hordes of enemies you have to defeat.
* Battles are set-up so you can't just hack through with one character, you have to swap to get certain things. (Rogue jumps higer, warrior is a tank/ brute force, Mage for large damage of multiple enemies quickly)
* Combo system that is, "more effective than simple button-mashing" (Note: it later mentnions the combo system only uses the X and O buttons)
* As a combination of the last two, characters can switch on the fly, to build up "super combo" moves.  (Which, I suppose, explains why you can't co-op the game)
* Getting hit instead of blocking/ parrying lowers combo 'charge'
* while combat is reptative, "Stormfront, the game's maker, embraces repetition as a foundation, calling on a masterful sense for the details to fill in around the base to create a frenetic, highly visceral, emotionally engaging game"
            (Translation, you play it for the story and nifty goodies after the first 3 hours)
* They included a version of the BG 'party chatter' system.  The review says the chatter 'occasionaly changes' on repetative plays.  I can't imagine replaying a game where you're limited to the same 3 characters, but that's me.
* Typical D&D character upgrading, while using XP to buy new combo moves.

They don't even mention the "nifty details" stuff they were talking about until the second to last paragraph.  Nifty details being things like: possessed statues dropping blades on enemies from above; objects like bridges and ladders can be cut-down to stop enemies, catapults can be used against the hordes you're fighting. The 'coolest' thing they mention is knocking enemies into a waterwheel and they try to claw their way out before being sucked down.

In all, it sounds like it might be a decent rental, but not something i'd pay full retail price for unless I was REALLY into D&D games.  Oh, the X-box version isn't due until November, and they don't mention a PC version.

The past cannot be changed. The future is yet within your power.

Well, you could do that in the first FR: Dark Alliance game too. In fact, you could play the whole game as Drizzt Do'Urden. What's the big deal?

hotdish = casserole as far as I can tell.

I traded in my fun blog for several legal blogs. Or, "blawgs," as the cutesy attorney blawgosphere likes to call 'em.
