This is why China isn't taking over the world. They're absolutely batfuck insane. (Or at least their government is, I mean, Bush is crazy sure, but man, I don't even have words for banning REINCARNATION).

I thought the Dalai Lama already picked the next Dalai Lama. The Chinese took the new kid to Beijing and he hasn't been seen since.

I'm just wondering what the forms to get permission to reincarnate look like. Also, do you fill them out before or after you die?

Before, but they expire in 48 hours, and you have to accurately describe your mode of death. If your window of opportunity expires before you do, subsequent filings cost additional. Submissions limited to 1 per month (some restrictions apply).

My third favorite quote from that article:

Recent surveys by the Barna Group, a Christian research nonprofit, have found that a quarter of U.S. Christians, including 10 percent of all born-again Christians, embrace it as their favored end-of-life view.

Re Krakrok:  Can't reincarnate until you've died.  I think you are thinking of a different Lama.

He picked the Panchen Lama.... which I guess is Lama #2, second in command. I was reading through all the history of the Lamas on wikipedia this morning after reading this article.

From what I understand, the Dalai Lama is going to pick someone not from Tibet, to reincarnate into... or however that works.

This has nothing to do with policy making and everything to do with China trying to have hand in picking next Dali.

I liked his melty clocks and stilt-wearing elephants, but it's not a great basis for a world religion.
