Accidentally posted this in the Bioshock thread  shocked

The wife let me get a 360 last night. Got Gears of War and Marvel Alliance. The missus wants an RPG that's not named Oblivion. Any suggestions?

Yea, wait a couple weeks and get her Blue Dragon and/or Eternal Sonata.

Better yet, wait for Eternal Sonata.

Perhaps something a little less anime-ish? Take it there's not much out there as of yet.

r u fem irl?

Really though, if you want a western RPG, your only options are Oblivion and uhhhhhghhhh Two Worlds.

Honestly, neither is worth the time or money.

Mass Effect maybe? I hear that's out soon. :P

Crap, I see at least five 360 games in OP's post that I almost forgot about. I'm just glad GTA got delayed till the spring.  That's at least $60 I can spend on Christmas presents for the wife this year.

Just so you know, Mikafar,  my wife was really into Oblivion.  It actually caused her to stop playing The Sims for several weeks.  I'd recommend it.  Unless you already played it, then... uh... Eternal Sonata.

Killer 7 was a shit game that thought it was art. It was neither.

My reviews of Red Steel and Dragonball Z both state that I liked them, but didn't hail them as OMFGZ GREATEST EVAR! I loved Red Steel more than it probably deserved, because objectively the game was about a 75-79, but my enjoyment out of it was about a 90. DBZ 2 was fun as hell, but more work than I wanted to commit to, which is what I wrote in my review.

SWG with twitch you said was fun that would be more fun with collision detection. It wasn't fun at all, even had they not put it out buggy as shit. I played it for 4 levels and was bored, and my leaving it alone had nothing to do with bugs, but boring gameplay.

Twilight Princess you bought twice. Which means you were wrong even to your own opinions, TWICE. For $50 each.

Well, you're still wrong about Killer 7.

I don't know why you played SWG at all. I didn't. They never met my demands.

Twilight Princess I got to return. Twice. For $50 each.

Killer7 would be so, so easy to port to Wii with success.  I'd love to see that.

Style out the ass. The best use of the fucked up Gamecube face-button configuration Ever. Period. And, all things considered, a really kickass class system/character selection method and a reasonably well done fucked up story.

That he would kill his mother and anyone else close to hand if they'd put out another game with the ding ring noise from Diablo. Possibly that it's one of the most fun games of all time as well.

Though honestly I think Schild's position is more along the lines that he's never played a game and later completely changed his mind about how good it is. It's a subjective genre, imagine trying to find someone who could honestly say they feel they completely miosjudged a novel. It could happen but if someone's stubborn enough they can quite happily claim to have never misjudged a novel, it's just that other people disagree with them about it's worth.

Well, you're still wrong about Killer 7.

No, it was ass. All the style in the world couldn't save it from being a game with an obtuse interface that laughed at you for being so stupid like it was some beret-sporting art fag. It was an arrogant prick rubbing its balls in my face.

Because it was free and I'd never played it before. You said it was fun even without collision detection, and it wasn't.

That says it all.

What does it say? That I can objectively evaluate a game's merits separated from my own prejudices? I loved the game, but could see why others didn't, because there were bugs, and it could have been a tighter game. But I still loved it, even though my review rated it in the 75-80 range. As per my review:

Quote
Overall, I stand by my estimation that the game deserves about a 7.5 - 8.0 rating. The short ending cuts it from a possible 8.5. It has multiplayer, but I never tried it since it is only splitscreen. The replay value of the game is very small. Your progress is marked in percentage points, but in order to get 100% (or more) you must complete the game on hardest difficulty and do everything right. I'm sure the game would lose its lustre, at least to me, before I could complete that lofty goal. And with no indication that such an achievement will have tangible rewards a la Resident Evil 4, replay value is almost nil. I ended up with approximately 10.5 hours of gameplay and my progress stopped at around 77%. I would suggest the game is a great rental or worthy of a half-price purchase unless you just have money to burn.

It isn't like Red Steel was Far Cry, which was ass on a Wiimote stick.

You stood still and shot things, where was the obtusivity?  I'd compare it to an arcade rail shooter before I compared it to an art fag, but I'm thinking of the mechanics rather than the presentation.  Killer7 wasn't perfect but I didn't think the controls were the issue.  Unless "controls" means "c-stick", in which case I can kinda see that.  But if the art direction turned you off, I can easily see that.  It was like putting on a crazy-helmet.

Surely, with complaints like yours, you can see where porting Killer7 to Wii would be a good move.  Unless you were serious about how the game was laughing at you, in which case I think you might want to put down the Internet and make a phone call to a professional.

It left me stranded and completely unable to proceed within like 3 scene changes. None of the controls, weapons or powers seemed to make one goddamn bit of difference to beating some barely visible enemy in a garage. I assume it was a garage, it was hard to tell. The interface left me high and dry, without any context for what I'd done wrong, or how to proceed. So after about 30 minutes of banging my head into an invisible wall like a retarded mime, I decided the game didn't want me to play it.

I don't have time for deciphering obtuse interfaces. If I did, I'd be playing more shitty MMOG's.

The art direction was actually intriguing. The concept was intriguing. The gameplay was shit.

This is why I didn't like it, the gameplay was 'meh' as far as I was concerned, and the story was too weird for me to get into to want to keep play the 'meh' gameplay.

I played it in Japanese first so I had NO HELP.

Press L Trigger to change vision to reveal Smiles.

Shoot the Smile.

Hold down R Trigger, Aim, Press A.

If this was obtuse controls, arcade games must be fucking mindboggling.

Also, the story was straight forward, unless you assumed Travis and the... fuck... can't remember his name, Iwazu? Iwataru? Shit. Anyway, they didn't tell you the story. Also, they were speaking english if you listened closely.

Anyway, I've played confusing games at length. I've played games and play them constantly with more confusing controls.

If anything, Killer 7 was too simplified in too many ways.

Saved me some hassle, you did.  You did not save the GS girl any hassle, but they do have it.

As for Haem's post, I read that as "It was too hard" and I didn't think I should give him a hard time about it.  I avoid plenty of games because of that.  I probably shouldn't admit that is why I stopped playing Geist, rather than the fact it was incredibly shitty.  In fact, it was shit-tay.

It wasn't just the "too hard" part, it was hard in completely non-intuitive ways, and didn't even pretend at any handholding. It felt like the game wanted me on my knees with cock in mouth before I'd even smelled the dinner at the restaurant. There was no context to grasp a hold of mentally. Learning how to play games is part of the fun, but there seemed to be none of that here. It was more like "boot to the head!" training for psychopaths. If I had nothing but time to do nothing but play games, MAYBE I'd have been rewarded by it, but the overall presentation wasn't interesting enough to make me put in that kind of effort. It was competing with wife-time, TV-time, and other game-time. It lost.

It certainly made me feel like I was walking around inside the greasy mind of the bugfuck insane.

Played Rune Factory for a few minutes (was waiting for nachos, and then they arrived). It has some of the same mechanics of HM for the GBA (e.g., clearing stones and weeds from your field before cultivating it), but you can hit monsters with your hoe. I hafta clear and plow my entire field before I can get the Cave Pass from the mayor or whatever.

@ Montague. Mass Effect should be the RPG event of the year. Sadly November is a ways off.

Oblivion was enjoyable but nothing spectacular. I'd say it's worth a purchase for $30ish just to play around in.

From the demos of Blue Dragon/Eternal Sonata I'm giving both a pass. Gameplay was formulaic and it was the usual J-drivel. I will say ES had some pretty backdrops tho.
