So I intend to move some low volume high value stuff into Jita. I probably won't get ganked (total value much less than 1B), but there's a remote probability.

For a piloted hauler, I'm thinking a Stiletto with 3x nanos. I ought to be able to align anyone can cargo scan me and decide to gank me.

For an AFK hauler, I'm at a loss. I know a T2 indy would work, but I'm not going to train that up. Would I be ok in a plated/extended Rupture? Or should I get a Typhoon or Cyclone?

I've been suicide-ganked in a T2 indy in 0.5+ sec once, and once in a T1 indy. Both times I was carrying around 3-500 million only. Both times I were AFK. Even freighters are apparently not entirely safe anymore, although it supposedly takes almost a dozen domis to take one down.

If you are not AFK, I think you should be OK almost no matter what, at least if you are able to tank a bit or move very fast. Shield tanks are preferable since the plates increases your mass significantly. For obscure reasons, plates slow BCs down much more than cruisers or battleships, so that is a particularly bad combo.

You should know, though, that I have moved transports full of high-value minerals (1-3 billion) AFK lots and lots of times, and the two cases above were the exceptions. I think there are certain systems that are much more risky than others. Both my cases happened in a system between Dodoxie and Jita. I'd look for systems with lots of ship kills and avoid AFKing though those.

Interesting! I would have thought Jita was more dangerous. Perhaps I will do all my hauling in a 3x extended Stabber. I get 11k shield hp that way, or I could do a 4x extended Bellicose with 14k shield, but it's slower. I suppose if I do get attacked, I will be webbed anyway so perhaps the speed wouldn't matter. It'd be nice to reduce the total travel time, though.

You should be fine as long as you don't afk. I do most my Jita runs in a rifter. Mostly because I really like rifters  cool
Even with valuable cargo I never had any trouble so far.
I ran into you, a week or so ago I think, when I was shipping some stuff in my trusted rifter, somewhere around matari space. You had just left a corp two hours before. At least I think it was you, I might be mistaken.

I did just recently leave a corp.

To my shock and horror, I found yesterday that when you character search for Dwindlehop both I and some assclown named DwindlehopS pop up.  angry

We'll see how often I wind up moving valuable cargo. Maybe I will not afk anything.

Haven't played in a while, so I wanted to ask:  by "not afk'ing" do you mean just being there ready to react, or do you mean using the manual "warp to 0" option for every gate, instead of the autopilot?  I think I know the answer, but figured I'd ask.

At least for me, it is using the "warp to 0" option.

When I still played, my setup was an Iteron 5 with all nanos in the lows, invuln. hardeners and a booster, and a cloak in the high slot in case I don't have instas, where I'll just hide some place.

I found a mix of inertia stabs and warp core stabs in the inte 5 was a great travel fit. Though my viator was the preferred high value transport.
