I wanted to start a thread dedicated to one of my favorite franchises, Bomberman. So let's get the nostalgia and stories out of the way quick and start talking technique and play dates. HA!

I will list the ones I played pretty regularly, which are the ones that had the most multi-player value.

SNES

Super Bomberman
Super Bomberman 2

Both these games were damn good. this is what made me love Bomberman. Any of these games plus a 4-player adapter equaled some of the best times had on that system. If this is all you have, you are not doing too bad.

 Heart Genesis Heart

Mega Bomberman

Man I can't say too much good things about this game. I believe that this game was better than both the SNES versions, but it was harder to find and there was less people that played it. This one had a really good set of levels and it had the animals to ride on each with their own abilities. The plus adapter, again, some of the best times on the system.

Saturn

Saturn Bomberman

This is the best Bomberman ever. lots of levels, online play ( in its prime) and 10 (TEN!) player bomber man. It was a damn NIGHTMARE. I think this game was goddamn amazing.

Game Cube

Bomberman Generations

Weird single player, damn fun multi. This game was pretty crazy, lots of weird items, which were leftover abilities from the various animals that you rode in Mega Bomberman (Genesis) and Saturn Bomberman (Saturn). I have to say that having the power ups as attainable abilities that you kept as opposed to a side affect of the specific creature you were riding (like mega Bomberman and Saturn Bomberman) sort of broke the gameplay up a bit for me. Some one got the punch ability and the kick ability and good fucking luck trying to trap them.
Still a damn solid Bomberman though.

Nintendo DS

Bomberman ds
Bomberman Touch

Both these games were fun, Touch was not much of an improvement but ti was still damn good. The duel screen craziness is damn cool though. You can kick bombs across the screens into other people areas and through warp tubes and whatnot. Pretty crazy. It made for some fun levels.

----------------

Anyway, those are the ones I played a lot. Bomberman Live looks damn good too, I have not had a chance to play it but I hear nothing but good things about it from people I used to play a lot of BM with.  SO discuss, AND if any of you know of a BM website, like a compendium of knowledge or a forum or whatever, tell me, cause if there isn't one, maybe someone has to make one. I would totally do that shit.

I played a whole damn weekend of Bomberman LIVE last weekend.  Me, my brother, my bud, and my wife vs. whoever was on XBL.

Damn good times.

Dunno why Joystiq took a shit on it.

Ahh, Bomberman. You aim straight for the heartstrings...

Few games have brought myself and a half dozen of my buddies to a near rabid insanity. Once I broke down and bought the multi-tap for the SNES, it was all she wrote. This game almost brought years long friendships to a screeching halt due to Vietcong punch glove map wraparound shots.

I still contend that this is the greatest party game ever produced. Not Mariokart, not Smash Brothers, not NBA Jam. The only other one in my book who even has an outside argument for the title is Goldeneye.

Bomberman need not be "brought" good sir. Bomberman's worth and glory is truly self evident.

While I not dare slam the fun-ness of Bomberman as a Party Game and it's ability to persist with that much awesome through the annals of time, well, I've heard of this game called Guitar Hero. It's a better party game. So sorry.

No.

Guitar Hero is a helluvah good game, but I don't put it in Bomberman country as of yet. Now Rock Band, when it hits, may be a different story.

Guitar Hero = 2 player. Bomberman was up to 5 on some versions. The defense rests.

If I wanna see 2 fools stare at a TV and hack their way through Skynyrd I'll hit the local shithole karaoke bar on quarter draft night.

Give me a game that the whole room can get their hands on at the same time. Let's face it, party games were designed for the sole purpose of fucking with your buddies and then letting them know about it while getting completely shitfaced on cheap booze. Bomberman knows few equals in this regard.

Yeah I agree, Bomber man IS the party game. Guitar Hero is fun but when Schild is in "I have to beat this song and if I don't I will fling my guitar" mode, Guitar Hero starts to suck. Bomber man is the all inclusive party fever game. IN bomber man you don't fling peripherals, you fling smack talk and skill.

Also I have yet to see a game party as hard as Saturn Bomberman. 10 players plus beer and Saturn Bomberman IS the definition of party game.

You don't get to say that given what your skills have deteriorated to. You have to be good at the game to get angry, sucka.

HAhahaha I never said I was good at Guitar Hero to begin with, and I can lose with grace and class. All my guitars are doing juuuuust fine. And I play Bomberman with ALL my friends minus you and josh and stuff. I really don't know why you guys don't play certain games. IE Street Fighter, Tekken, KOF, Tetris, Puyo Puyo, BOMBERMAN Etc.

Fighting games work well for me as party games. Learning that Garou: Mark of the Wolves was a blast.

I stink too bad at Guitar Hero to be anything other than amusement for drunk people.

I don't like playing fighting games because I lack the skill required to pull off any moves that make the game(s) look worth playing.

dono if that made any sense....

Jiggly: They take practice, but it is okay if you don't play them. Play Bomberman or other multi-player stuff.

Bomberman Strats

I made a fun little psd so I can make illustrate BM strats. I will go over some basic-advanced stuff for all those who want to whoop some ass next time someone whips out the Bomberman I will try to keep most of this stuff general, and break off into title specific strats later.

First I will go over the power up overview for those who forgot what kind of pickups you can get. Some of these are only in some games so watch out.

Fire-Up – Increases the bomb blast range by one level.  Maxes out after 5 pickups.

Speed-Up – Increases movement speed by one level.  Maxes out after 4 pickups.

Bomb-Up – Increases bomb count by one.  Maxes out after 7 pickups.

Full Fire – Upgrades bomb blast to the highest level on all bombs.

Bomb Punch – Punch any bomb in your path 3 blocks away

Bomb Kick – Kick any bomb by running into it.  Stop it by pressing the action button

Power Glove – Plant a bomb, pick it up and throw it with the Action button.

Line Bomb – Drop all bombs in a row at once.

Power Bomb – The first bomb you plant has maximized fire power.

Dangerous Bomb – The blast expands in a square. Upgrade it by collecting Fire-Ups.

Pass-Through Bomb – Blast penetrates soft blocks.

Remote Bomb – Detonate bombs with a press of the action button button.

Land Mine Bomb – The first planted bomb hides in the ground.

Speed-Down – Decreases walking speed by one level.  Will never hit zero.

Fire-Down – Decreases blast range by one level.  Will never hit zero.

Bomb-Down – Decreases bomb count by one.  Will never hit zero.

In addition to power-ups and power-downs, there are also Skulls, which cause one random state of six illnesses. Slowness, random controls, bomberia etc.

I will put some of the images i did up next that will illustrate some scenarios and how to fuck shit up.

I let this thread slip but I am playing a bunch recently, hope I see some of you online.

I am playing the "frags" game type on Bomberman Live. It is awesome. It plays almost like a FPS, with kill limits, dropping our goods when you die, etc. This could seriously turn into one of my favorite BM play modes.

It's top of the XBLA list. I used to love SBM and SBM2 back in the day, and still have my SNES around especially for that game. Just I have no discretionary income for the next few weeks....

Bomberman started to me with Bomberman 93 on the Turbografx.  A classic series.  Ive got original on the TG and 93, Online on the Dreamcast, Jetters on the Gamecube, and Live.
I should play Live more often....

Bomberman was best when it was called Dynablaster and alternated with Sensisoccer tournaments.

Oh no...."I am more hardcore than ye!!!" BML, unlike BMO and Saturn BM is more universally accessible. It plays well and has a multitude of modes to make it play how you see fit. I already have a custom game that plays like BMO (or damn close) and that is pretty damn cool.

And no. BM was not better when it was called Dynablaster and played with Sensible Soccer. (although SWOS was super good, but I do prefer Ultimate 11 or Super Side Kicks 4) BMO and Saturn BM and MBM are widely known as the best BM style games. BML plays much like those, minus the mounts.

Bomberman LIVE has some cheese to it, that didn't happen in Bomberman 2 (My favorite).

You can place a bomb in LIVE, let it count down to a fraction of a second left, pick it up with the glove, and toss it.  It'll pop the moment it lands.  Combine that with the 3x3 bombs (Dangerous Bombs) and you cannot escape.  When someone tossed a bomb at you in SNES Bomberman 2, the fuse reset.

There are a lot of toggles for the new powerups, I just wish I could toggle off the glove cheese.  We had a house rule for a bit, but house rules are lame, so it's prison rules again.  It gets played a lot less than Bomberman 2.

Still it is one of the better XBL multi-player games.

Yeah, I agree on the cooking thing. That is BS. But The D-Bomb trap is a double sided sword, if you chase down fools with a D-Bomb they can't drop it cause they will blow themselves up too. Just follow them around till you can make your way out. All in all though, you are right, the cooking is broken. The D-Bomb in general should be like the Remote Bomb where if you kick it the bomb breaks. ( kicking the Remote Bomb breaks the receiver) Then it is just a dud that pops if it gets caught in another blast. Not only that, the D-Bomb should have a much smaller max fire radius.

I personally think that Mega-Bomberman and Saturn Bomberman are the Best ones, those games get an amazing amount of play at my house.
