That is a good pic.  It has a definite feel and symmetry to it that makes it interesting.  I also like the lighting.

Not trying to convey anything really, just playing around with lighting & photoshop and quite liked the way this came out. Lots of my photos are at this stage at the moment - trying to produce images that look exactly how I pre-visualize them. Slowly getting there :p

And yeah, it's me, I know, I'm a bony git!

Maybe it was the camera and photoshop helped accentuate it, the lighting or something else, but I like that the scuff marks on the lens show up. Most times the lens is crystal clear, which doesn't make sense for a mask like that. Nice work!

I like it as well. Is it just two light sources, one from either side? The symetry is quite well done.

Thanks folks :)  And Ookii, that's OK, there's nothing to get, I really was just messing about. If you don't like it then you don't like it, don't be afraid to say so, I won't mind :p

Bunk - yeah, a speedlight either side, about 1.5m away and slightly behind me, both with homemade 2cm grids. There's also quite a lot of bounce off of the ceiling since it's a very low, white ceiling. This house is a nightmare for light control shots cos all the ceilings are low and white. Girlfriend (who also happens to be the owner of said house) refuses to let me paint any of the walls and ceilings black  angry

Careful now. That's asking to start an argument about whether any photography can be art... which then leads to the interminable one about what is art anyway and then before you know it someone's quoting Susan Sontag and it all goes to hell  Oh ho ho ho. Reallllly?

You haven't taken college photography, have you?

I have a decent eye for composition, and I failed (FAILED) college photography. Rather, the professor was a raging art douche who claimed I didn't "get" art and mocked my stuff in front of the class. I got up, called him a raging art douche, the epitome of everything that is wrong about the art community, and to stuff his pretentious failed art career (excuse me I mean honorable teaching position) up his obviously well-trod anus. So I might share some of the blame for failing college photography.

I fucked a lot of girls in the darkroom, though. So I call that a pass.

You must've really sucked if you failed college photography. Like, badly.

I understand teachers can be douchebags, trust me, I was a TA for one for the longest time.

Here's some reviews of him. Shame I can't find a picture of him.

Anyway, college photography. If you fail that, well, I'm surprised you managed to make it out of college. Of course, if you're calling someone a raging art douche then odds are you shouldn't have been in an art class anyway. Go in with a grudge, leave with a grudge. College isn't complicated.

I'll share with you two reasons I ever walked out of a class:

1. Cultural Diversity - 2 white kids, me and my roommate, first day the teacher assigned "Why do all the black kids sit together in the cafeteria" as course reading. I thought, "well this is productive." I assume my roommate did as well. We bounced. All that was left was black kids sitting together in a classroom. I don't like college environments where preaching to the choir is OK - see LGBT for more of that bullshit.

2. Art and religion. Girl in that class was a member of the Koresh cult. Teach told us not to laugh. We did, and left. That was after berating the girl for a few minutes while the class just sat there, jaws on the floor.

What I learned in college as an art major: it's all about the con. That teacher was all about the con, not the art. Since I didn't want to be a con-man, I left. I did fine in classes that weren't completely objective (my other major was biochem). Actually, I did great in most classes that were, just not that asshole's pile of shit. Had nothing to do with college photography, really.

When I was younger I had an artistic job.  I had a boss who was a bull dyke and also a TOTAL control freak bitch.  She was well known by all to be extremely hard to work for because she was so demanding.  She was a perfectionist who had a knack for making you miserable even if your work was passable.  Most people hated her, and I confess that at the time I had my problems with her from time to time as well.  But when I look back on it now, she was the only person I've ever known to challenge me.

See, most people coddle artists.  And to be fair sometimes they need their process to be coddled.  But other times, when they are stuck in a rut, so to speak, they need that over bearing twat waddle to step on their dick in order to shock them out of it.  Art is such a fickle thing.  But did you ever think perhaps that that art teacher who mocked your shit did you way more benefit than you give him credit?

If you want to remote link on Dropbox, you have to put them in public folders, rightclick -> dropbox -> get public URL.

Finally managed to get a stererographic projection to work! Yay!! This is the Bradford Industrial Museum.... tiny, tiny little museum here full of old steam engines and cars from the 1920's, but has some awesome staff working in it. Taking photos in public places is getting harder and harder these days, I've had more than one run in with the police in the last 6 months, but these people were well into it. Interested, totally happy for me to dick about with tripods and stuff for ages, chatty, just great. Anyway, bit big, sorry, too chuffed I made it work to do small pics!  DRILLING AND MANLINESS

So far, both those photos you've posted here are things I would absolutely frame and hang in my house.  Well, maybe not hang, glue or something.  Magenta seems to like to jump on things on walls and see how long she can hang on to them by the tips of her claws.   ACK!  She does it with door frames and windows, too.   ACK! ACK! ACK!

Yah I really liked wandering around outside, the inside was meh. We did the garden tour and he took us all over to point out the large variety of plants they have going on - pretty interesting history with plants brought in from all over the world.
