I just resubbed to Vanguard so I could get free access to EQ2 for 2 months with all the content.  Pretty crafty eh?  Now, I've never played EQ2 before, but I'm accepting applications for any and all comers who would like to newb out with me indefinitely.

Edit:  I should be up and running within 4 hours.  It's gonna be a sexy time, you won't wanna miss it!

This isn't Jerry Maguire, this is Army of Darkness.  Specifically the part where Ash gives his speech to the medieval guys and ends with "Who's with me?!" and they all just kind of look at him.

 :-D

Yeah, maybe EQ2 is a good game.  And maybe I'm a Chinese jet pilot.

I'm thinking more along the lines of when he takes the fish and has a nervous breakdown because only Renee Zellwegger would come with him when he got fired.  Anyway, yeah, I'm sort of in a freefall so EQ2 seemed like a good idea.  Let me know if you want to duo Norrath with me.  It could be like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pa98yttfhMY.  Only together.

Opinions of either game aside, it is nice to recieve an apology of some kind.
I must have gotten the Super Sucker award for my purchase of the Limited Craptacular Editions.
Maybe in 2 years Vanguard will be 'thriving' after it has undertaken 'tremendous enhancements' like its cousin EQ2 !!!!

Edit: Sorry about the size, see if this ones better

Wow that's insane. Instead of even claiming to want players to return to VG, they push people right into EQ2. I've always agreed with those who think VG was picked up to drive more players into EQ2, and this seems even more proof positive.

Not that EQ2 doesn't deserve the players. It's a fine game and has come a long way. It's just a shame if that growth has to come from such a terrific failure. Whatever VG became, the people who made it didn't hate their jobs nor the game they were making.

Still doesn't make sense. They could've done the same thing without buying out Vanguard.

Not as easily though. I basically wonder if VG was a Marketing/Advertising spend.

How many accounts VG brought with them? 50k? 75k? More?

Seems to me that at some point SOE maybe considered that the amount of accounts they could get through VG exceeded the amount they could have gotten through aggressive advertising alone. This includes advertising on TV, in magazines, and across their other titles.

They have a good breadth of titles, but they span a very wide range of themes. How many people in Planetside, SWG, ToonTown or MxO are interested in EQ2? And at this point, everyone who was going to leave EQ1 for EQ2 has long since done so.

Compare that to the parallels between both Tolkien-esque standard-Fantasy DIKUs that are EQ2 and VG. There's more similar about these games than not. So SOE picks up VG to get these accounts into their system, get a boost to All Access, and potentially get a way to drag enough accounts from VG to EQ2 to shut down the money sink and dump the resources into the one they've been trying to grow.

Maybe.

How would it not be as easy? They are operating both games. They would've known exactly who had cancelled VG accounts without buying out the game.

Well, zombies are eternal, and she's on the atkins diet. Duse might want to ask her about skin blemishes, however.

I should get back to nature, too.  You know, like going to a shop for groceries instead of the computer.  Maybe a condo in the woods that doesn't even have a health club or restaurant attached.  Buy a car with only two cup holders or something. -Signe
