Oddly enough, this situation is very similar to the very last MBE (multiple choice) question I had on the Illinois bar exam a few years ago....
It was a products liability question. I almost died laughing (which almost got me booted from the exam for distracting others) because all I could think was, "Hey, I'm drowning in bullshit too!"

As far as I know it does not kill you instantly, but knocks you out pretty fast. That effect you should know. :-D |

As funny as the situation is, I kind of feel uneasy joking about it, or reading jokes. I mean, a whole family got wiped out. More than that, two little girls went running into the pit to try and save their parents who basically died in front of their eyes, only to die themselves.
Thats just a bit.........grim.

It displaces oxygen. Same thing with CO2 in a pit or tank that has been pumped down. You get down in it and your oxygen is mostly gone and you pass out pretty quickly, especially if you didn't think to hold your breath to try and make a bee line for the ladder back up. Fall down in crap and it's pretty much over. |

While I feel as you do, people make jokes to avoid the horror. Let them. Yes, this is actually, at the heart of it, a fucking tragic story. But there's enough of them if one wants to look hard enough. |
