Who the hell is Nick Yee?

So I found this in my inbox today.

On June 17th, I graduated with my PhD from Stanford University. I started my
research in MMOs in 1999, and the Daedalus Project was created in 2003 to
effectively index findings and allow for public comments. At times, I too forget
how much material I have accumulated over the years.

In this issue of the Daedalus Project, I present some reflections on all that
has happened as well as provide links to some high-profile media appearances and
reports I have been involved with recently.

Although there isn't a new survey for this phase, I have absolutely no plans of
ending this line of research. Look out for a new survey phase in a few months.

this project have meant and continues to mean a great deal to me.

The fuck?  I'm "part of the Daedalus Project" now?  Is James Bond going to come and kill me?  Did anyone else get one of these?  This is the only MMO site I frequent anymore, so I assume this is connected.

I'm pretty sure his survey has come up before but I can't find a reference to it at the moment.

Nick was one of the first guys to collect and then publish info related to MMOs about play times, male vs female, income levels, married vs unmarried, motivations for play and all other kinds of crap.  His survey and site have been circulated on MMO sites since '99 and he occasionally e-mails folks who previously took the survey so they can come back and take the new versions.

At some point in the past you probably took his MMO survey.  He just updated the report based on the survey update from March, so that's probably why you got e-mailed.

I appreciate his view on games as cooperatives.  He's a bright guy.
