Grim Grimoire: A Real-Time Strategy PS2 Game. A Review.

Vanillaware didn't exactly come out of nowhere. After all, they did make Princess Crown back in the day. But we never got Princess Crown in America. And unless it appears on the PSN as a downloadable PSP game through some unholy ritual, we probably never will see it on our shores. But, we did get Odin Sphere. And much like Odin Sphere, Grim Grimoire is an audio/visual feast. It's gorgeous, it sounds great, and it's the kind of game you expect at the end of a console lifecycle. It also happens to be a 2D RTS, possibly the first original one since Lemmings or King Arthur's World (har!). And you know what, it works.

Oh ho ho. I see what you did there.

I have yet to finish Odin Sphere. I love quirky, fun Atlus translated games, but I'm also terribly bad at keeping up with any game other then an MMO.

I'm also terribly bad at RTS games, so I'm torn.

Not from Atlus, it's from Vanilla Ware & Nippon Ichi.

Right, I'm retarded, I just read that this morning.

But I just meant mainly the translation-based houses that work on these ports.

I'd just like to thank you for not taking the title's font literally, and spelling it GriMGriMOiRE (or whatever) in your review.

Good work, hopefully I can check this out soon.

I had every intention of pre-ordering this but got sidetracked by Lost Planet and Forza2.  At this point I'm not sure if I'd actually play it anytime soon but I know damn well it will be impossible to find in a month.

The only RTS I've actually truly enjoyed was Company of Heroes.  Typically the genre puts me to sleep but this sounds different enough I may actually dig it.

Just picked this up.  Got the last copy at my Ebgames near my house.  RTS is not my favorite genre and I'm still unsure of the control scheme.. but ehh.. reviews have been glowing.  Game just looks fucking cool.

You know what response I get when I mention pretty much any JPRG?

"Uh...what?"

Halo/Maddentards, and little kids wanting to buy shit on the Wii, or the newest movie tie-in.

(Also, the store is only about a year old. At least one person a week comes in, saying how they had no idea we existed in that location.)

If you have a proven way to sell something like Odin Sphere, Persona 3, Disgaea, etc., I'd like to hear it.

Totally Serious.

I liked breaking them into weird japanese shit with the Katamari games first.  Hopefully they get a taste for the crazy.

Good luck trying to get any EBstop manager to let that fly. Because then, you could buy any game, beat it in a week, and return it.

Seriously, how many games have you guys finished within a week of buying it?

If I don't finish it in the first week, it's not getting done for a year.

Seriously.

Not one in several years.  I think the last game I beat in under a week was Max Payne 2.  Other than that specific instance, I have trouble remembering any game I didn't really meander my way through.

Oh, I probably haven't sped through a game in a week since the first year or two of college.

Also, I'm the same as Schild to a degree....if I don't finish the game in a timely fashion, something else will come along and grab my attention, and then I'll get out of the habit of playing the game I was originally trying to finish, and by the time I realize what has happened, a lot of time has passed. Going back and finishing games after extended breaks can suck.
