so, in the rare event that there are any BFV players residing here, version 0.1 of the PoE mod has been released this week. for those of you who may have bought the game and have since been looking for something to really justify purchasing the game, this could be it. get it from www.pointofexistence.com

it's still a rather early build - no new playermodels/skins, occasional sound glitchiness, reload animations not matching up - but it does seem to very promising. they have a fairly healthy selection of maps even with this early release (probably about as many maps as official BFV, even counting rehash maps like hue/reclaiming hue, etc). the maps all seem to be of good quality, though they may not meet your tastes. for example, i don't really care for the expansive wide-open vehichle-heavy maps because i like to have a bit more infantry combat in the mix.  the jungle maps are laughably superior to the jungle maps which came with BFV. i could go on, but i'm probably going to get laughed out of here for playing BFV to begin with.

it's not revolutionary by any means, but seems to be a fairly solid mod with a lot of promise. i figure there's probably at least a few others out there who might have picked up BFV and been subsequently disappointed, leaving the game to rot on a shelf. maybe this will help you squeeze out a bit more enjoyment.

I picked up BF:V when it was released, and while fun, it was rather buggy and unbalanced.  After the recent patch, the game is stable and the balance issues have been fixed.  I'm enjoying the game very much, and play quite often - the new map "Defense of Con Thien" is really well done.

They did a balance pass? I'll have to check that out. I mostly still play 1942 because I like the pacing a lot better. Didn't care for DC much for the same reasons. It's fun for a little while, but the uberweapons get old pretty quick. Even 1942 got a little out of hand with the new pacific map engineer rifles having 5 shots, imo.

I'll pass the mod info on to my buddy the eqholic, he loves mods. But I'll await his 'it's done' verdict before I check it out. We played a little multi-theft auto, but it's still basically a little deathmatch game, kinda boring after a half hour.

yeah - the official 1.1 patch did quite a bit to fix up BFV. the m60/RPD got their much-needed nerfs, and the m60/LAW kit no longer exists. there are a few more ways of countering choppers (thank jebus), although choppers can still be extremely lame on some maps.

BFV is a pretty decent game post-patch, but considering the inexcusable length of time it took them to patch it, it's still been a let-down for me. they spent quite a while developing the game, released it as an extremely buggy and unbalanced game. there's no excuse for taking 3 months to add features already present in bf1942 (voting interface, improved scoreboard, buddy system, etc). of the game's 15 maps, 6 of them are re-workings of the same map. i guess what i really want to say is that the whole thing was really really sloppy to begin with, and while it is pretty fun to play now, BF1942 was a significantly better game considering the time it was released.

I will note that BF1942 was released BEFORE EA bought a piece of dice, and BFV was released after EA bought a piece.

Just saying.

yeah, when you put it into that context, BFV has EA stamped all over it.
