After suffering over and over through Heart Shaped Box on GH2 (on Easy mode, at that) to finally 5 star it I have the overwhelming urge to dig that motherfucker up and beat his skull in with his own shin bone.  I now hate this song more than any other person on the planet.

Anyone else run into heartache with that goddamned song?

I'm curious. Every part of the song on a real guitar is extremely simple. I have to check this out now. I was under the impression that game was sort of reflective of difficulty levels on a real guitar (seeing that so many people bitch about Buckethead -- though that song isn't nearly as difficult on a real guitar as it in GH either. Err..except at the end).

[EDIT] Just looked over Youtube and found Expert and Hard videos. Yeah, that does look like a bitch.

The first riff is basically just picking single notes within A --> F --> D (in open D tuning), and can be played with your hand remaining completely stationary (i.e. all the notes are within reach of each other). It's not as complicated and hectic as the GH version is.

Hate to say it, but I found 'Heart Shaped Box' to be one of the easiest songs in the game. The part I hate about it is the terrible lead singer for the cover band they used.

I finished all the songs in easy mode (including the last 5 you need to finish to progress to get to medium) before finally going back and attempting to even pass it.  Shit, I've been 5 starring songs way, way up on the harder sets before I could even pass Heart Shaped Box let alone 5 star it.

I truly hate that goddamned song.

At least you don't have small fucking hands.  I can't get past anything harder than Medium because I can't reach buttons fast enough.

The worst part about the song is the cover version they did. Musically, it's fine, but the vocalist is TERRIBLE.

I beat it today on hard after not playing guitar hero for a few weeks.  Never played it past medium before.

Gotta agree with Murdoc, one of the easiest songs of GH2.   evil

All of this GH2 talk reminds me that I need to figure out how to jury-rig my controller to mess my hand up less.  Gotta find some kind of foam core or something...time to go buy some electronics, I guess.

I am having trouble envisioning how the capo would help...unless you mean using it to attach junk to the back of the neck to make it thicker.  Or maybe just get a real guitar....but playing my bass is nothing like the controler, so I'm now stuck back at "how would I use the capo."

If this were a text adventure, I'd just type, "use capo on GH2 controller," and then I"d know whether that works or not.

You could stick a rubber band around the yellow button, since lower notes supercede the higher ones, the Yellow one may as well be pressed down all the time.

Of course, you need the yellow botton to navigate the menus, but hey.

It also breaks chords if you're holding down any extra notes.

Not to rub it in but it's one of the few songs I actually 5-starred the first time through Expert.  It's a really easy song in my experience.  I still want to beat whoever included Freya over the head over and over again.  But then I've got crazy long fingers and actually like the controller for the 360 version better than the PS2...

What the hell are you talking about? New guitar hero? Did I miss something? Will I at last have to buy an X-Box 360?

There is even a full-fledged Wikipedia entry. Very cool that artists are signing on to allow their original music to be used instead of having some hack band cover it.

I just found out that I grew up right next-door to the Harmonix Audio Director. WTF. Guess all those years of his parents not letting him play with the rest of us 'rabble' and forcing him to practice piano for 3+ hour stretches paid off.

Sweet! Muse, Beasties, The Stones....can't wait for the new one.

On a side note, Life Wasted is currently kicking my ass on EASY; I can't get any higher than 4/5. WTF. Thanks Mike McCready, for making me look like a douche. However, HSB was rather easy, sorry OP.

Heh, exact opposite for me.  I 5*ed Life Wasted without really breaking a sweat, HSB eluded me for a long goddamned time.

ETA: Fast songs don't really bother me so much as songs with bizarre time changes, which is why I think HSB was such a bitch for me.

Wow, that new lineup is looking really good. And I don't even play GH.

At this point, I'm not even sure why a band would not go onboard if asked.
